Job Description

The Receptionist is responsible for greeting and assisting all visitors, checking in patients for assessment, answering the switchboard and routing calls appropriately, maintaining the facility census book, accepting and directing incoming deliveries, processing incoming and outgoing mail, providing clerical support as requested, and keeping A&R forms stocked. Receptionist is responsible for maintaining the appearance of the lobby and triage rooms. The receptionist is also responsible for providing data processing services for the facility which includes entering patient’s admissions, entering A&R calls, entering discharges and physician/bed/unit transfers. In addition, the receptionist assists with various clerical duties and projects as assigned.


Job Requirements

Education:  High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience:  Two (2) years  experience on a multi-line telephone switchboard, preferably in a heath care environment and any combination of education, training, or experience in a hospital environment preferred.

Additional Requirements: May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.

  1. Knowledge of switchboard operations and paging systems.
  2. Knowledge of computers and business software.
  3. Knowledge of in-house processing systems.
  4. Knowledge of census preparation and layout features.
  5. Knowledge of basic business office clerical functions.
  6. Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
  7. Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures.
  8.  Effective oral and written communication skills.
  9.  Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
  10. Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  11. Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
  12. Ability to work as a team player.
  13. Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.
  14. Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.
  15. Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups (adolescent, adult and geriatric).
  16. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  18. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
