Job Description

The Sierra Vista Hospital location, a 171-bed psychiatric care facility located in south Sacramento, is a full-service mental health facility and a center of support for patients and their families. Since 1986, we have offered our clinical expertise to those suffering from emotional, behavioral and addiction problems.

The Therapeutic Activities Personnel I is responsible for the planning and implementing of services for the Department of Therapeutic Activities. This includes developing and facilitating psycho-educational and activities-based wellness group sessions with adults and adolescents and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.  The Therapeutic Activities Personnel I is responsible for conducting groups within his/her educational scope that increase patients’ awareness of optimal mental health, teach unique and positive coping skills, and provide a structured milieu to increase active participation.  Groups facilitated by the Therapeutic Activities Personnel I include Skills Development, Self Esteem, and Physical Wellness.

Job Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited college or university, in Psychology or a related field such as Social Work, Fine Arts, or Occupational Therapy.
  • Experience: One year (1), or more, of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred. 
  • Additional requirements: CPR certification and successful completion of the hospital’s designated behavioral and physical management training program (CPI), including de-escalation and appropriate use of seclusion/restraint required prior to assisting in the procedures. You may be required to work overtime and/or flexible hours.
