The Regional Director, Human Resources, Behavioral Health is responsible for providing HR leadership, direction, and technical expertise in a variety of HR areas including but not limited to HR strategy, talent acquisition process, employee retention, organizational change, employee relations, regulatory compliance, wage and hour, etc. The Regional Director is assigned to select region (i.e., East, South, Central, or West), which typically is comprised of up to 45 Behavioral Health Facilities and their leadership teams (e.g., Facility HR Directors, CEOs/C-Suite, and RVPs). In addition, the position provides HR coverage for the C-Suite employees located within assigned BH Facility(s). The Regional Director must be resourceful and flexible to meet the ever-changing business needs of the Company. The position functions as an HR generalist and oversees key organizational processes, including but not limited to: development and interpretation of HR policies and Employee Handbooks, partner with Company labor relations department, assists with Corporate Legal with external complaints (e.g., EEOC, State Civil Rights, OSHA, and NLRB position statements, etc.), trending employee relations data, development and presentation of HR competency training programs, conducting regular site visits, HRD orientation, and other training programs, etc. Provides regular support to Corporate Director, Human Resources with special project assignments.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Oversees and participates in the delivery of HR services to align Facility HR with Facility/Company business needs.
  • Advises the Facility HRD and Market HRD regarding the Facility’s talent management and employee retention strategies.
  • Uses strong critical thinking, analytical skills, and good judgment to influence the behavior/performance of the Facility HRD and CEO (and Market HRD).
  • Analyzes and interprets sensitive internal and external ER activities, including assigned Corporate Compliance matters.
  • Consolidates reports and consults with Facility on quarterly START metrics.
  • Directs the HR guidance to Facility HRDs, Market HRD, CEOs, and RVPs regarding a variety of HR-related topics, including HR policies, practices, and emerging trends.
  • Partners with Facility HR and Corporate Compensation team in designing, implementing, and administering competitive pay programs as well as monitoring internal equity issues.
  • Manages Corporate appeal process for internal disputes pursuant to Dispute Resolution policy.
  • Designs and implements competency training programs for HRDs based upon metrics and needs, including consulting with CEOs and RVPs to identify training needs for HRDs
  • Conducts periodic needs assessment to align corporate HR priorities with Hospital business needs.
  • Consults with Facility HRDs to identify training needs and/or competency gaps for staff.
  • Conducts second interviews for Facility HRD positions and first interviews for Market HRDs.
  • Conducts exit surveys for C-suite employees, analyzes results, and identifies trends.
  • Conducts HR Review/audits at Facility, identifies compliance issues, and constructs action plans with CEO and/or RVP.
  • Develops and interprets HR policy and Employee Handbooks.
  • Designs orientation modules and orients newly hired HRDs.
  • Oversees select vendor relationships for HR.
  • Consults on special Corporate Human Resource projects.
  • Develops and executes integration plans for newly acquired facilities.

A Master’s degree from a fully accredited college/university is highly preferred.
• A professional certification (or equivalent) is highly preferred.
• Must have strong HR generalist background to assist Director with special projects assignments (e.g., to facilitate field HR operational efficiency, competency development for field HRDs).

• 8 to 10 years of professional HR experience, preferably in an acute or behavioral healthcare setting.
• 2 to 3 years prior work experience in an HR management capacity.
• HR consulting experience with multi-site and multi-state locations.
• Able to work collaboratively and effectively with the field to achieve good outcomes.
• Must be responsive in managing issues that require timely management/oversight.
• Must have prior experience managing high volume full cycle recruitment process.
• Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
• Knowledge of labor relations and union avoidance tactics.
• Must maintain sensitive employee information as confidential.
• Must have general knowledge of compensation practices and, also, knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws.
• Must have knowledge of HRIS systems (e.g., Lawson, HR Smart, Raz reporting
• Knowledge of Microsoft office:  Word, Excel, Power Point
• Up to 25% travel.
