The Regional HR Generalist is responsible for managing the onsite administration of HR policies, practices and procedures for an assigned component (s). The incumbent partners with on site operators to ensure HR practices are aligned with organization and operational goals. The position reports to the Regional Director Human Resources and is a 12-13 month contract opportunity.


Duties and Responsibilities:

            Recruiting, Selection and Retention

  • Develop recruiting strategies leading to the recruitment, selection and retention of hourly staff
  • Partner with Corporate Talent Acquisition for the recruitment of salaried and management staff
  • Ensure reference checks and exit interviews are completed. Analyze exit interview trends for regrettable resignations.
  • Ensure new hire documentation is received, entered in the HCMS and updated as required
  • On board, orient all new and returning employees and ensure employees receive proper training appropriate for their position eg. Health and Safety, WHMIS, HCMS, Cash Handling

Employee and Union Relations

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and Provincial Employment legislation
  • In unionized settings in consultation with Corporate HR responsible for ensuring collective agreement terms and conditions are followed and provide recommendations to operations as required
  • Provide information and assistance in collective agreement negotiations
  • Directly assist and provide counsel on progressive disciplinary issues and performance management issues to management team.
  • Communicate with union representatives as required
  • Conduct Investigations (Hotline, Human Rights, BCP Violations) otherwise as required often in conjunction with Corporate HR and assist in making recommendations
  • Provide professional coaching and counselling to management and other employees as required
  • Implement, communicate, monitor and maintain all Company and client policies and Procedures
  • Work in collaboration with Corporate HR on all terminations

Health and Safety

  • Ensure all employees adhere to all OH&S policies and practices
  • Schedule and co-chair all JHSC meetings as appropriate
  • Responsible for claims management and return to work for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses
  • Direct staff to appropriate resources related to the group benefit plans
  • Liaison and support between the operators and the component and the GMM metrics for H&S monitoring purposes.

Performance Management:

  • Participate in succession planning and staffing requirements
  • Participate in and provide direction to management in the annual performance appraisal of hourly and salaried employees within the Regions components
  • Assist in salary review process for all non-union and union hourly and salaried employees
  • Provide leadership and facilitate activities that will build and enhance employee engagement and retention
  • Assist the Office Manager with Payroll Procedures/Vacation Accrual
  • Prepare reports and make presentations if necessary
  • Workforce Planning/ Schedule (if applicable)
  • Company Lead Initiatives




  • Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Human Resource Generalist role and/or Food Service Operations is required.
  • Human Resource experience must include employee relations and recruiting experience.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications is desired.
  • Preferred experience in dealing with unions.
  • Professionalism and diplomacy with all levels of staff and leadership team is required.
  • Presentation skills for general orientation, addressing all staff, and other training initiatives is required.
  • Multi-tasking with the ability to remain calm during high volume periods is necessary.
  • Travel is a required part of your role, anywhere from 2-3 times every week: situational and dependent on business account.
