Unit Description

Sodexo is seeking a Part Time Outpatient Oncology Dietitian (2 days/16 hours per week) to provide nutrition counseling and education at Suburban Hospital's Outpatient Medical Center (SOMC) in Bethesda, MD.  Suburban Hospital is an affiliate of Johns Hopkins Medicine. 

 

Position will report to Clinical Nutrition Manager at Suburban Hospital and ideal candidate will:

 

  • Provide individual nutrition counseling to patients undergoing radiation and chemotherapy as well as patients identified by nursing and physicians to be at nutrition risk during cancer treatment
  • Provide at least quarterly cooking demonstrations and other group educational programs to cancer support groups at SOMC as well as members of the community at large
  • Work closely with Oncology Interdisciplinary Team
  • Attend quarterly Hospital Cancer Committee Meetings
  • Have at least 1 year clinical experience with additional background in patient education 
  • Be familiar with providing enteral nutrition support recommendations
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of complementary and alternative medicine
  • Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition or willing to obtain within 2 years of hire
  • Licensure in Maryland

Position Summary

Responsible for providing direct comprehensive nutrition services
Key Duties
-Directs nutrition care of special needs population to ensure nutrition needs and customer satisfaction levels are met.
-Maintains and develops client relationships and client satisfaction to ensure account retention.
-Manages, promotes, and educates others on food and nutrition programs according to Sodexo standards and policy.
-Collaborates and communicates with culinary and clinical departments on established processes, special diets, and menu requests and probes potential problems and apprises manager of status on resolution of problems or issues, using appropriate Sodexho resource when necessary.
-Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations as well as Sodexo/client policies and procedures (e.g. Health Dept., HIPAA/Privacy Act, Joint Commission, quality assurance, safety, operations, and personnel) by keep abreast of the most recent nutrition-related trends, research, policy, certifications, and standards of practice.
-Establishes operating standards, implements quality improvements and communicates them to other departments..

 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor's Degree

Basic Functional Experience - 1 year work experience in health care including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted or independent living facilities, long-term care, retirement homes, or clinics + registered dietitian
