Unit Description

Sodexo has an outstanding opportunity for a Full Time Registered Dietitian working as a Keto Clinical Dietitian, specifically in caring for the specialized nutritional needs of pediatric patients for Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, VA (Virginia Beach, VA area).

 

*Candidates do not need to have Ketogenic experience.  Training will be provided.

$3000 sign on bonus available

 

The CHKD Health System has convenient locations stretching north to the Middle Peninsula, west to Williamsburg, as far east as the Eastern Shore and as far south as Elizabeth City, N.C. With 17 pediatric practices, we have offices in every corner of our region and our CHKD pediatricians have immediate access to the full range of special pediatric services. 

 

 

This position will be working with our Neurology Department caring for seizure specific inpatients and out patients. Traditionally the ketogenic diet has been used for myoclonic, atonic and tonic-clonic seizures . This position will work on the main CHKD campus in Norfolk, VA

  • Be a Registered Dietitian.
  • Will have pediatric experience or a passion for working in pediatrics.
  • Ability to adapt as kids needs change, and each day can be unpredictable as not all patients are scheduled.
  • Have empathy for our patients and families.
  • The selected candidate will possess the ability to creatively problem solve, work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions while working within a self-directed and team-oriented work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to interact with a wide variety of individuals and groups, excellent time management and organizational skills are needed to be successful in this position.
  • Be a part of the clinical team with a regular schedule and rotating weekends as needed.
  • Assist the clinical nutrition manager with performance improvement projects
  • Participate in developing and implementing practice protocols to provide continuous quality improvement in all aspects of nutritional therapy. Participate in hospital research as requested.
  • Keep up-to-date on research in nutrition and educate staff and students on nutritional issues; act as a preceptor for students in nutrition.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
  • Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CHKD Standards.
  • Provide education and counseling to caregivers, pediatric patients, and their families.
  • Provide education to MD's, RN's and other disciplines as needed.
  • Round with physicians to provide advice, monitor patient status and make adjustments to therapy as needed.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to diet associates as needed to provide the accurate meal types and measures per the Ketogenic diet prescribed.

Position Summary

Responsible for providing direct comprehensive nutrition services
Key Duties
-Directs nutrition care of special needs population to ensure nutrition needs and customer satisfaction levels are met.
-Maintains and develops client relationships and client satisfaction to ensure account retention.
-Manages, promotes, and educates others on food and nutrition programs according to Sodexo standards and policy.
-Collaborates and communicates with culinary and clinical departments on established processes, special diets, and menu requests and probes potential problems and apprises manager of status on resolution of problems or issues, using appropriate Sodexho resource when necessary.
-Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations as well as Sodexo/client policies and procedures (e.g. Health Dept., HIPAA/Privacy Act, Joint Commission, quality assurance, safety, operations, and personnel) by keep abreast of the most recent nutrition-related trends, research, policy, certifications, and standards of practice.
-Establishes operating standards, implements quality improvements and communicates them to other departments..

 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor's Degree

Basic Functional Experience - 1 year work experience in health care including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted or independent living facilities, long-term care, retirement homes, or clinics + registered dietitian
