Alabama Clinical Schools (ACS) is an 80-bed Joint Commission accredited facility in the Trussville area, providing a therapeutic milieu for males with psychiatric issues and/or sexually abusive behaviors.  Treatment is based upon the individual needs of each youth.  Rational Behavior Training methods of intervention are used with elements of Cognitive-Behavioral Theory to assist individuals in changing their thinking patterns, emotions, and behavioral responses.  ACS also has two levels of foster care programs.  We offer a competitive benefits package as well as shift differentials.


The RN responsibilities include:


  • Completes patient admission process, including nursing assessment

  • Documents ongoing patient assessments/progress clearly and concisely

  • Medication administration and management

  • Participates as member of interdisciplinary treatment team

  • Provides appropriate nursing intervention/documentation in crisis situations

  • Reports unsafe conditions

  • Provides age-specific communication, limit setting and interventions

  • Provides health education to patients and their families

  • Prepares and adheres to facility patient discharge process

  • Interacts with patients and staff in professional manner, promotes teamwork and demonstrates Service Excellence


Schedule - Flexible hours on first and second shift, and will work every third or fourth weekend (12 hour shifts when working weekend)

Sign-on bonus at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months.  



Qualifications include:

  • Graduation from an accredited RN nursing program.  Licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
  • One year psychiatric nursing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of nursing practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, planning intervention and evaluation of psychiatric patients
  • Ability to administer medication/treatments and monitor for effectiveness and side effects
  • Skills in developing therapeutic relationship with children and adolescents
  • Skills in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation
  • Ability to provide education to patients and families/legal guardians about their health needs
  • Good oral and written communication including verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to plan, organize and conduct patient care processes in a timely manner
  • Ability to safely perform physical management techniques and crisis intervention
  • Must successfully pass background screen (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check) and drug testing  
  • Must be reliable, following through on assignments
