Position Summary:

a.       Demonstrates understanding of COBRA/EMTALA regulations.
 
b.      Is able to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
 
c.       Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrythmias and treats appropriately.
 
d.      Accurately assigns triage categories.
 
e.       Maintains current knowledge of medications and their current administration based on age of patient and their clinical condition.
 
f.       Is able to assist emergency room physician with diagnosis and interventional procedures, i.e., central lines, closed reductions, advanced airway management.
 
g.      Is competent to monitor the patient undergoing procedural sedation.
 
 
IVMC – MICN’s ONLY
 
a.       Follows REMSA protocols as directed by base hospital physician.
 
b.      Uses professional communications at all times.
 
c.       Appropriately seeks direction from base MD, PLN, Manager and Charge RN.
 
d.      Consistently maintains certification
 
e.       Completes necessary documentation clearly and completely (base logs, Cerner call-in form, ICS-306, Reddinet).
 
f.       Attends a minimum of 50% of all MICN specific training (base meetings, etc)
 
g.      Attends annual policy update class.
 
Requirements

 

1. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
 
Ø Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
Ø Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area (BSA), circumference and volume.
Ø Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
 

 

2. MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
 
Ø One (1) year experience in an acute care facility, 6 month in Emergency Department required.
Ø RN’s with less than one-year experience must complete a 4-8 week preceptorship program.
 

 

3. MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
 
Ø Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing program.
 

 

4. REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS
 
Ø Registered Nurse with current California RN license.
Ø BLS and NIH certification.
Ø ACLS certification.
Ø PALS certification.
Ø MICN and TNCC (Inland Valley/status positions only) preferred.
Ø CEN encouraged.
 

 

5. WORK ENVIRONMENT
 
Ø Ability to work in high volume, fluctuating census environment.
Ø Subject to many interruptions.
Ø Subject to irregular work hours.
Ø Ability to work in fast-paced environment where noise levels fluctuate.
