The Brook Hospital is currently seeking a Registered Nurse to work PRN for all units

The Registered Nurse is  Responsible for implementation of the nursing process in all aspects of patient care for all patient populations including geropsych, chemically dependent adults, adult psych, adolescents and children. Assures a comprehensive approach to patient care by applying appropriate theories to psychiatric nursing practice for all patients.


The following are job requirements for the position Registered Nurse

Complete staff assignments during morning and afternoon shift report. The 7a-7p Primary Nurse assigns charting responsibilities for 7-3 staff during morning shift report and for 3-11 staff during afternoon shift report (including chart assignments for the 7p-7a Primary Nurse)
Attends the Treatment Team meetings
Completes the nursing assessment and opens the care plans on every new admission during your shift
Complete all required documentation on every special treatment procedure that occurs during your shift
Update your patients’ treatment plans weekly. Ensure all medical issues are addressed, all target dates are accurate, all update sheets are completed accurately, and that all problems include completed nursing and MD interventions. Close those problems that no longer require addressing
Ensure that all ordered labs have been obtained; pull the carbons of the requisitions from the chart after you have verified the labs are present. Obtain any missing labs from the lab via fax and place them on the chart immediately
Provide documentation in the nursing progress notes every week of the medical problems open on the care plan. Charts objectively using appropriate format
Provide documentation in the nursing progress notes every week that you complete a Primary Nurse Weekly Update. Use narrative-style charting for this task
Record the date you completed the weekly updates on your patients on your patient roster sheet
Demonstrates knowledge of Nursing Department philosophy, and assumes responsibility for maintaining Standards of Nursing Practice and Standards of Care for all patients
Maintains current knowledge of nursing principles and their application to practice recommended with treatment of all patients
Works without direct supervision of each task that needs no supervision
Oversees completion of daily Assignment Sheet at the beginning of each shift
Serves as primary channel of communication between shifts, for patient care unit, and between departments during designated tour of duty
Seeks supervision from immediate supervisor for complex issues that arise within the therapeutic relationship
Serves as a role model for patients to observe and learn more socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors
Plans nursing care in conjunction with the treatment team and/or other staff members
Prioritizes nursing care interventions according to individual patient and overall unit milieu needs
Responds with therapeutic interventions to disruptive behavior disorders as listed in the DSM-IV
Professionally collaborates with all staff members to facilitate coordinated contribution to patient care; maintains continuity of patient care
Participates and attends treatment planning
Participates in the development of patient’s problem solving abilities
Facilitates communication and problem solving between the patient and family during interactions on the unit
Intervenes in crisis situations to promote positive growth and development and to reduce dysfunctional patterns of behavior
Provides feedback to patients, regarding their behavior, utilizing individual and group settings
Demonstrates understanding of chemical dependency and CD Program
Gives direct patient care, including assistance in activities of daily living
Demonstrates effective limit setting skills
Actively participates in patient groups
Identifies verbal and non-verbal cues for potential aggressive behavior and applies de-escalation techniques to situation
