Registered Nurse (RN) Educator

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses.  PIW is a 130 bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency.  PIW has an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare.  Situated in the safe, historical Tenleytown neighborhood, PIW is one mile from the Tenleytown Metro stop and within walking distance to local cafes and restaurants.  RN employees receive free, on-site parking.

The Registered Nurse (RN) Educator coordinates with nursing service in designing, evaluating, planning, presenting, and reviewing educational programs to meet the needs of orientation, in-service education, and continuing education of hospital staff.  Creates and presents the annual plan for staff development based on identified learning opportunities, licensing requirements, OSHA and The Joint Commission standards.  The Nurse Educator also conducts learning needs assessments, makes rounds on patient care units, interacts with all departments, and trains existing employees on new policies and procedures.  Nursing Students and all internship programs will be managed by the Nurse Educator.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Licensure: Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the state of employment.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a CCNE accredited nursing program.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of behavioral health nursing clinical practices and management.
  • Extensive knowledge of principles and practices relevant to nursing and patient care activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective management and supervisory practices.  Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and monitor others’ activities with demonstrated leadership abilities that contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Proficiency with common computer based applications such as electronic mail, word processing and various databases, whether PC, network or mainframe based.
