Description:

Position Summary: In this role, the Principle Chemist designs and conducts high level analytical testing for product/packaging development and various field problem-solving requests. Primary job duties include measuring GCMS volatiles and performing flavor related analytical testing with other analytical instrument technologies. Analytical analysis for Quality and processing parameters or issues are also an important role.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Perform GCMS volatile chemical analyses that support product and process development -troubleshooting
  • Perform flavor associated testing on HPLC, IC and potential future LCMS work
  • Chromatographic data interpretation and correlation back to process, materials or contamination issues
  • Collaborate as a member of the Analytical Sciences team to support Product, Process, & Package Development and Quality initiatives
  • Develops, validates and documents methods for volatile chemical and flavor analyses
  • Integrate functional expertise with business objectives to identify critical testing needs and timing
  • Generate insights through connection of experimental results with internal and external inputs
  • Develop reports and presentations that clearly and concisely communicate conclusions and recommendations
  • Keep current on leading edge analytical technologies and bring new capabilities to PepsiCo laboratories
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation



Critical Competencies:

  • Demonstrated expertise and strong knowledge of analytical, food, and organic chemistry
  • Expertise in techniques for isolation of volatile compounds from food, ingredient and packaging matrixes.
  • Expertise in GC-MS instrumentation, software, and supporting IT systems
  • Ability to design and execute projects, draw on experiences and leverage internal and external inputs and expertise
  • Ability to troubleshoot, identify root cause, and implement corrective action
  • Ability to organizes complex information using appropriate media and presents with context and clarity
  • Communicate in a clear, proactive, and timely basis
  • Works effectively as a member of cross functional teams
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet evolving goals and needs of teams
  • Proactively seeks new, simple, and rapid ways of conducting test procedures and practices that promote lab performance and efficiencies


Qualifications:

  • Ph. D. in Analytical, Organic or Flavor Chemistry with 5+ years of experience or a Master's Degree in Analytical, Organic, or Flavor chemistry with 8+ years of experience in GC and GCMS headspace analysis of foods, beverages and/or flavor components
  • Experience in isolation of volatile compounds from food and beverages
  • High knowledge and experience in GC-MS, GC, HPLC other analytical instruments
  • Outstanding teamwork, communication and leadership skills
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills
  • Experience in snacks and/or beverages is preferred
