Job Description

RESIDENTIAL ASSISTANT

 

A member of the staff who works with the Residential Program coordinating and overseeing the daily activities the Residential Houses.  This position functions under the direction of the Residential Coordinator.  Daily responsibilities include monitoring and coordination of non clinical operations of the program. Monitor AA/NA Meetings. Assign daily House chores and assist patients in performing necessary tasks. Monitor Patient whereabouts at all times.  Maintain orderly and safe environment. Ensure all required information is logged daily.

Maintain a file on each resident. Complete a daily note on each Resident. Monitor and safe guard Confidentiality. Complete all required reports in a timely manner. Facilitate house meetings as required.  Attend Mandatory Trainings and in service trainings.

Job Requirements

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

Minimum Associates Degree and or 5 years experience in direct care.  Baccalaureate degree in psychology or related field or human behavior or equivalent is desirable along with experience working with a behavioral health population.

 

Experience:

1-2 years experience in human services field.  Knowledge of behavioral health issues and experience or training in the recognition of at risk symptoms and strong understanding of therapeutic and professional boundaries. Ability to facilitate a house group as required. Knowledge of 42 CFR.

 

Technical Skills:

Ability to communicate clearly through spoken words and in writing. CPR and basic first aid. Knowledge of Codes and protocols for codes.  Ability to take a set of vital signs when needed or directed.

 

Age and Disability:

Must possess knowledge and skills necessary to interact compassionately and appropriately with families of the mentally ill.

 

Other:

The Residential Assistant must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to a partial hospitalization population with particular emphasis on a substance abuse population.  Must be able to work independently and communicate effectively to treatment team

 

Contacts:

Reports to the Residential Coordinator or designee.  Interacts with residents, resident's families.  Interacts with on-call clinicians, nursing supervisors, as well as visitors.

 

Environmental Demands:

Moderate pace, supervising residents with management and maintenance of the partial plus house, sitting in meetings, much time walking; may have to work in noisy and congested areas; may escort residents off grounds; may be exposed to violent residents and bodily fluids.

 

 

 

Essential Physical/

Mental Demands:

Physical effort necessary to lift resident and respond to psychiatric crisis situations.  Ability to prioritize workload during changes in pace.

 

Manual Dexterity

Required:

Ability to write legibly in resident charts.
