The Oaks at La Paloma is currently seeking a Residential Counselor, to monitor, support, and provide outstanding care for our clients. The ideal candidate will have the ability to inspire our clients’ confidence in both our staff and the FRN Model of Treatment. The Residential Counselor will be a key role in providing daily encouragement to our clients, while also serving as a listening ear and a safe place, as they work through the difficult steps of breaking free from addiction.

This position is located at Foundations Recovery Network’s residential treatment facility, The Oaks at La Paloma, in Memphis, Tennessee.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensures program schedule is maintained
• Observes patient behavior and documents using Patient Status Notes/Observation Log
• Utilizes TIER and enters notes
• Utilizes motivational interviewing and patient-centered techniques when assisting patients
• Provides empathic, supportive approach to all client interactions by acting as a sounding board for the individual
• Conducts orientation of new patients
• Monitors resident computer and telephone usage
• Conducts psycho-educational groups, upon completing proper training
• Employs de-escalation techniques, as confrontation is not used
• Utilizes local crisis response team in case of emergency psychiatric emergency (i.e. suicidal/homicidal ideation or threats)
• Conducts safety drills according to FRN Safety Standards
• Participates in training and meets FRN and licensure expectations related to training

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Thorough knowledge of Patient Handbook
• Ability to inspire client confidence in the FRN Staff and the FRN Model of Treatment
• Ability to consistently demonstrate, through conduct and communications, the stability required to effectively assist patients and their family members through the FRN Model of Treatment
• Adhere to the JCAHO standards
• Works with minimal direction or supervision
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
• Must have good interpersonal skills, as this position continually requires demonstrated poise, professionalism, tact, and diplomacy
• Must have working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing and spreadsheets (MS Word, Excel)
• Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and the ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into the organization
• Understands need for and maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, residents, families, visitors, referral sources, and all other contacts

Education and Experience
• High School diploma or GED required
• Minimum 6 months’ experience working with dually diagnosed individuals, preferred
• CPR certification (or willing to accept training prior to work)
• Valid Class F endorsement (or equivalent)
• Ability to pass employer’s MVR check in order to be added to insurance carrier
