Henderson Hospital
Henderson Hospital is a member of The Valley Health System, a network of six acute care hospitals that provide care for patients throughout Southern Nevada and nearby communities. Located in the suburb of Henderson, the 120-bed hospital, which opened in 2016, offers emergency care, surgical services, including an ambulatory surgery center, cardiovascular care, women’s health and maternity services. A level II neonatal intensive care unit is slated to open by late 2017.

 

Job Description

RT 2 - Responsible for the delivery of respiratory therapy modalities and respiratory assessments to patients of all ages in all patient care areas, including critical care, NICU or Labor & Delivery.  Performs responsibilities independently and without supervision except as necessary during orientation or training.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  

 Essential Job Duties:

Performs responsibilities consistent with hospital safety policies.
Knows and applies infection control policies and processes when handling and disposing of blood and body fluids.         
Responds to life-saving activities which may include Code Blue procedures, and life safety activities.     
Assists Shift Supervisor with orientation of new respiratory staff, including evaluation of their conduct and skills.     
Supervises and evaluates conduct and skills of students during their clinical rotation in the department.
Maintains equipment assigned to them.            
Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment before reporting it to the Shift Supervisor.          
Supervises Respiratory Technicians assigned to them.    
Serves as Respiratory resource person for Respiratory Technicians.           
Reports concerns to the Shift Supervisor or Manager of Pulmonary Services.          
Delivers respiratory modalities and performs assessments pre hospital and department policies and procedures.        
Documents all care delivered and not delivered per department policies and procedures.   
Cleans and packages equipment per department policies and procedures.
Participates in neonatal transports.     
Performs intubations.             
Attends in Labor & Delivery with difficult deliveries.       
Performs arterial and capillary blood gases per department policies and procedures.           
Performs patient/family teaching.       
Department Specific Requirements     
Demonstrates working knowledge of Respiratory standard of practice.    
Demonstrates working knowledge of Nevada State blood gas and respiratory care practitioner regulations. 
Educate clients in appropriate area of expertise.             
Utilizes appropriate resources to maintain a current knowledge base in areas of responsibilities.       
Maintains certifications as appropriate.             
Classification Specific Requirements    
Employees in positions involving patient charting and related functions, must possess competency in use of technology and computers.

Effectively communicates both orally and in writing.       

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

Education: Graduate of an AMA approved Respiratory Technician/Therapist program.                

Experience: 1 year in adult respiratory preferred.                                                                                                             

Technical Skills: Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department and provide the care/service as described in the department policies and procedures.                                                                                                                                                  

License/Certification: Current Nevada Practitioner of Respiratory Care License, Current Nevada Blood Gas Technologist or General Supervisor License (or must apply for blood gas technologist license within the first 30 days from hire date); Current BLS certification; The following to be obtained within the first 90 days of hire date if applicable to specific facility departmental policy and procedure: NRP, PALS and ACLS.                                                                                                                                         

Other: Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department.
