The Retirement Counselor works within a corporate, call center environment. There could be limited travel due to training and/or onsite needs. This individual is responsible for assisting participants with consolidating assets into plan, conservation within plan, distribution & individual retirement rollover options through inbound calls and/or proactively reaching out to prospects through outbound calls/email campaigns in Prudential Retirement.  They will work closely with key personnel and departments such as Participant Services Center (PSC), Operations, Key Accounts, Dedicated Field Retirement Counselors and Relationship Managers. 


The Retirement Counselor must have a strong knowledge and superior understanding of defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans, non-qualified and qualified individual retail products/services and investment options.  This is accomplished through a consultative sales approach providing holistic financial wellness insight, guidance and education via telephone. This position requires a professional acumen, sales/service focus with excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), strong work ethic, superior organizational skills and a competitive drive to succeed.

  • Executes on team target goals- rollover into plan, retention in plan and IRA rollovers through timely inbound and outbound call activity daily with existing plan participants. This includes campaigns, new business not in good order items, and other plan event lead sources as directed.
  • Manages both inbound call and outbound call activities and prioritizes based on high value opportunities.  Provides guidance to Prudential terminating prospects and advises them of their distribution options.  
  • Oversees prospects' paperwork processing through Sales Associates and Operations to ensure expedited processing and reduced sales cycle times.  Proactively reaches out to contra-firms on behalf of the participant to accelerate timing.
  • Achieve individual and team asset goals by probing clients for outside financial assets.  Assist clients in effectively consolidating outside financial accounts.
  • Having holistic, consultative retirement education discussions with active participants through Welcome Calls/Emails (i.e. enrolling, Investor Quiz, consolidating).
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and streamlined operational processes between operational partners.
  • Participates in team meetings and training programs.
  • Completes all compliance training on time and maintains license requirements & designations as needed for the role.
  • Demonstrates success; exceeding sales and service targets in an inbound and outbound call center environment and/or onsite locations (as needed basis).
  • Solid understanding of Prudential Retirement defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans and in-plan investment options, individual retirement products and services.
  • Strong process orientation and organization.
  • Succeeds in a fast-paced environment and can multi-task.
  • Communicates and partners with support areas to create a win-win sales and optimal client experience.
  • Tele-Selling Skills; phone etiquette and consultative selling skills required.
  • Hours of position will be 10:00am-6:00pm


  • Bachelor's Degree preferred as well as 5 years of sales and/or service in financial services required
  • Focus on individual retirement solutions in a fast-paced phone environment preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans and individual retirement products/services and industry-related concepts
  • Excellent written and verbal telecommunication skills
  • Strong teamwork orientation, attention to detail and time management
  • Background in customer service and call center environment a plus
  • Superior understanding of individual retirement products and services
  • Solid understanding of the retirement saving behaviors of investors
  • Strong aptitude in learning contact systems
  • FINRA Series 7, 66 or 63 and State Insurance license strongly preferred or required within 180 days of hire
  • Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) Designation required within 180 days of hire
