Description:

This position serves as the strategic participant communication & education designer for Prudential Retirement's largest Key Accounts.  The incumbent is aligned to a Key Account territory and is accountable for conducting client needs analysis to create communications and education strategies for Prudential Retirement's largest and most complex clients.  The position is responsible to drive participant net flows, support book of business profitability, and achieve persistency targets.  Meets with clients and their intermediaries to understand the assigned accounts' plan and participant needs and proactively works with Marketing to develop individualized communication and education programs to meet those needs.  Develops objectives and strategies, as well as tools, to monitor ongoing performance for the marketing programs; periodically meets with clients to provide updates on targeted results.  Coordinates closely with Marketing, Sales, Retirement Counselors, and the Key Account teams to achieve territory results.  Supports all pre-sales activities within the assigned territory and is able to clearly articulate the participant retirement security sales story to the buying team.  This individual will have a comprehensive knowledge of the retirement marketplace, assigned territory, and retirement products/services and marketing campaigns.

Responsibilities:
  • Works directly with the assigned Key Account Team members and client/prospect to develop a comprehensive participant retirement security strategy designed to increase participant enrollment, contributions, and asset diversification to drive aggressive net flows, client profitability and persistency targets, and increase cross-sale opportunities.
  • Consults with client, their intermediary, and internal team to uncover needs and translates those needs into an actionable strategic participant plan. 
  • Sells participant communication and education programs within service model and pricing guidelines. 
  • Meets with client periodically throughout the year to evaluate program and assess results.
  • Working closely with Marketing, analyzes client's retirement plan structure and design and assess participant demographic data to create individualized client communication & education approaches utilizing a mix of electronic, print, web, and alternative media. 
  • Continuously seeks to understand and apply customer insights derived from ongoing dialogue with clients and other market-facing teams to influence the strategic direction of the client's participant retirement goals.
  • Represent Prudential Retirement at client and intermediary sales meetings in assigned region. 
  • Sell the full participant retirement security suite of capabilities, show casing the differentiated Prudential value proposition. 
  • Actively participate in development of tailored RFP responses, review of sales presentation materials, and in all sales strategy calls and dry-runs to prepare for sales and finals meetings. 
  • Debrief for continuous improvement and to identify best practices.
  • Continuously analyze competitive positioning to assess market landscape and to develop new approaches and participant strategies that best represent Prudential Retirement and their value proposition.
  • Serve as a back-up for other team members during periods of peak volumes.

Candidates will ideally be located near a major mid-western metropolitan airport in Iowa (Dubuque) , Ohio, Indiana or Illinois (Chicago)


  • 6-8 years of account management, marketing communication, or participant education experience in the retirement industry
  • BA or BS degree, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with clients through a creative discovery process to uncover client and participant needs and then translate those needs into an executable strategic plan
  • 3 years of consultative sales experience with a demonstrated ability to reach corporate sales and profitability targets while meeting client expectations; strong negotiating and influencing skills
  • Strong understanding of the retirement marketplace and the market trends impacting the retirement security needs of participants
  • Strong understanding of retirement distribution channels, products and services, and buying influences of middle and large market clients and their intermediaries
  • Strong awareness of the execution criteria required to implement strategic plans
  • Current on social media, current technology and  how consumers take in information
  • Superior matrix management and partnering skills
  • Superior communication skills (oral, written and formal presentation)
  • Solid financial aptitude with a thorough understanding of business profitability levers, investment products and services, and service models
  • Open to new approaches and is adaptive and receptive to change
  • Willing and able to travel 25 to 50% of the time
