Job Description

SummitRidge Hospital provides quality behavioral health and addiction treatment services in Lawrenceville, GA, approximately 30 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. Registered Nurses provide caring and professional inpatient, outpatient and support services to adults and adolescents suffering from psychiatric or addictive disorders. Additionally, the Geriatric unit provides acute care for seniors in psychiatric crisis. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (ECT/Infection Control) with recent behavioral health experience. Prescribes, delegates and coordinates the nursing care provided on assigned unit, as appropriate for the ages of the patients served.  Routinely functions as the nurse responsible for a group of patients or as a preceptor or the charge nurse.  Supervises and directs the nursing care provided by other nursing staff in a positive and courteous manner.  Communicates effectively to other staff to promote efficient continuity of care.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


1.  Initial assessment of all new patients

2.  Obtaining records from previous admissions or any medical information needed

3.  Education about ECT procedure & obtaining level of understanding from patient and family

4.  Coordination of Benefits with Utilization Review and Business Office

5.  Pre-certification of all Outpatient ECT’s and ongoing Utilization Review

6.  Scheduling Outpatient for internist appointment for medical clearance

7.  Obtaining and reviewing lab work and EKG’s prior to treatment date

Infection Prevention

•Conduct environmental rounds in all inpatient and outpatient care areas. Collect data on the incidence of selected device use in identified intensive care units. Maintains all competencies required for position.

•Report all in-house patients with communicable disease to the county and/or state health department and maintain appropriate records. Compile and interpret surveillance reports to the appropriate committee, units, and medical executive committee on a regular basis.

•Collect data in support of epidemiological studies of specific problems or problem areas to determine the source of the problem and make appropriate recommendations.

•Participate in quality/performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring nosocomial infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis.

•Help plan, organize, develop and implement educational programs for hospital employees to increase employee awareness of existence of nosocomial infections; techniques for avoidance and preventive measures to provide a safe environment for hospital employees and patients.

•Regulatory: Maintain compliance with national standards and regulating bodies such as Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, FDA and HCFA.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

- Graduate of an approved school of nursing

- Currently licensed with the Georgia State Board of Nursing

- Prior experience with inpatient psychiatry

-              3 years of nursing experience required.

-              One year of experience in infection prevention preferred OR relevant coursework (i.e. APIC ICE 101) in infection prevention preferred

-              Certified in Infection Control (CIC) preferred and/or consults with someone who has such expertise in order to make knowledgeable decisions.
