Job Description

 POSITION SUMMARY: Provides safe, competent nursing care for patients in accordance with facility policies, standards, and philosophy. Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. The concepts of Patient Centered Care will provide the foundation for all nursing care. Demonstrates Service Excellence standards at all times.  Develops, implements, and evaluates an age-appropriate plan of care utilizing the nursing process, clinical skills, and patient education. Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources, as needed. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, families, visitors, and employees. The RN will assess risks to patient safety and implement the appropriate precautions. The RN will comply with appropriate and approved standards, as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies. The RN will comply with safety and injury prevention standards to minimize risk to self, co-workers, patients, and visitors. The concepts of the patient centered care delivery model will provide the foundation for all nursing care.

Job Requirements
  1. EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

  2. Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program

  3. Must successfully pass any pre-employment assessment(s).

  4. BLS (or obtained during orientation) and maintain certification throughout employment

  5. Current state nursing license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas.

  6. De-escalation training within 90 days of hire; does not require maintaining.

  7. Ongoing compliance with demonstration of clinically pertinent competencies as determined by the facility.

 

Pediatrics:

  1. PALS within 3 months of hire. Certification must be maintained throughout employment
  2. Chemotherapy class within 12 months of hire; repeat class every 2 years and maintain throughout employment

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit:

  1. PALS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment
  2. Chemotherapy class within 12 months of hire; repeat class every 2 years and maintain throughout employment

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit:

  1. NRP within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment
  2. STABLE within 6 months of hire; repeat renewal class every 2 years until 10 years’ experience.  Class may be taken anytime within the year of expiration. 
  3. 90% score on neonatal medication exam – employees will have two chances to pass with remediation material available

L&D:

  1. NRP within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  2. ACLS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  3. Intermediate fetal monitoring (AWHONN) at first available class after hire and must maintain throughout employment.
  4. Advanced fetal monitoring (AWHONN) preferred.
  5. HROB – Advanced fetal monitoring (AWHONN) required and must maintain while active on the HROB team.

Mother/Baby:

  1. NRP within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  2. STABLE within 6 months of hire does not have to be maintained.
  3. ACLS as assigned by Director/Manager

 

Cath Lab:

  1. Critical Care experience preferred
  2. ACLS
  3. Successful completion of EKG test

Emergency Department:

  1. ACLS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment
  2. PALS within 3 months of hire and maintain certifications throughout employment.
  3. TNCC within 6 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  4. ENPC encouraged
  5. Handle with Care within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  6. Minimum of 4 – 6 month’s experience as an employed nursing student in the specific unit, nursing students must have completed a leadership semester in the ED, or one year as an RN in a hospital setting.

Cardiology:

  1. ACLS completion within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  2. Completion of annual EKG arrhythmia interpretation competency with a minimum score of 85.
  3. 100% score on medication test – employee will have two chances to pass exam with remediation material available.
  4. Prefer one year full-time or 3 years part-time experience in an acute care setting.

ACCS:

  1. Prefer one year full time or three years part time experience in acute care setting.
  2. CCRN, TNCC and Cardiovascular certification preferred for specialty units.
  3. 100% score on medication test – employee will have two chances to pass exam with remediation material available.
  4. ACLS completion within 3 months after hire or promotion.
  5. Must pass EKG, Blood Gas Analysis and BKAT exam with a score of 85% upon completion of didactic/computer orientation program – employee will have two chances to pass exams with remediation material available.  **Experienced critical care nurses may test out of didactic/computer orientation with a score of 85% on the Blood Gas Analysis and BKAT exam.
  6. Satisfactory return demonstration of competencies required for critical care specific processes and equipment.

**Employment is dependent on passing above exams and competencies.

Rehab:

  1. ACLS, PALS, or NRP completion within 6 months of hire and maintain or promotion certification throughout employment.
  2. Prefer one year full time or three years part time experience in acute care setting.
  3. Prefer 2-3 years of clinical rehabilitation experience preferred.

NRU:

  1. Minimum of 2 years of experience in acute care setting with critical care experience preferred
  2. All clusters: HWC and verbal de-escalation completion within 30 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
  3. ACLS and PALS completion within 3 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
  4. NRP within 3 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
  • Cluster 1: ACLS, PALS, NRP
  • Cluster 2: ACLS, PALS
  • Cluster 3: PALS, NRP

Perioperative Areas:

  1. Day Surgery (ASC):
  1. ACLS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  2. PALS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  1. Surgery:
  1. ACLS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  2. PALS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  1. Endoscopy:
  1. ACLS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  2. PALS preferred.
  1. Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU):
  1. ACLS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  2. PALS within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
