The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) is a 385-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC, next to the Foggy Bottom metro. RN NEW GRAD RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Nurses at the George Washington University Hospital are delivering world class care through their capacity to think, study, research, discover, evaluate, teach, learn, refine and innovate. In 2015, GW Hospital was just a few of hospitals in the nation, and the only hospital in DC to be recognized by The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) for its meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care.

We invite you to join us in Defining Medicine through our RN Residency Program for new graduates.

The GW Nurse Residency Program establishes your foundation as a nurse, as you participate in an extensive 2 year program, which includes classroom instruction tailored to specific clinical areas, a focused evidence based approach to learning, clinical preceptorship and new hire support/mentorship. Opportunities exist to work in one of the following units (please note your preferences on your cover letter)

  • Emergency Department

  • Intensive Care Department

  • PACU Intensive Care Department

  • Operating Room

  • Surgical Services

  • Cardiovascular Center (CVC-3 South)

  • General Medicine ( 4 South)

  • Medicine/Oncology (5 South)

  • Surgical and Bariatric Center (5 North)

  • Neurology/Orthopedic, Stroke and Rehabilitation Services (4 North)

  • Women’s Services – Postpartum, Labor and Delivery and NICU (Level III)

Job Requirements

Education /Requirements

  • Current CPR certification.

  • New grad RNs MUST have taken their NCLEX and passed before the start of the program. It is strongly recommended to sit for a DC RN license when registering to take your boards.

  • 2 Letters of recommendation from clinical instructors on letterhead

  • Official Transcripts (Unofficial will be accepted if followed by official with GPA at minimum of 3.0 or higher no exceptions!!

  • Graduate of an accredited or NLN -approved RN program.

  • Current licensure status to include NCLEX test date and jurisdiction (e.g. DC, Maryland, VA) If you have not graduated please indicate the state you plan to obtain your initial licensure.

  • Must successfully pass any pre-employment assessment required by facility.

  • Effective Communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Effective interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities.

  • ADNs will be considered.
