Job Description

The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) is a 385-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC, next to the Foggy Bottom metro. GW Hospital serves a diverse group of patients — from local residents to our nation’s leaders. As an academic medical center, GW Hospital has the resources and clinical expertise necessary to provide specialized, complex care. This expertise includes cardiac, cancer, neurosciences, women’s health, trauma, and advanced surgery including robotic and minimally invasive surgery.

GW Hospital is jointly owned and operated by George Washington University and a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), one of the nation's largest healthcare management companies. The GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), adjacent to the hospital, is the 11th oldest medical center in the country and the first in the nation’s capital.

The mission of GW Hospital is to provide the highest quality health care, advanced medical technology and world-class service to its patients in an academic medical center dedicated to education and research.

Nurses at the George Washington University Hospital are delivering world class care through their capacity to think, study, research, discover, evaluate, teach, learn, refine and innovate. In 2015, GW Hospital was just a few of hospitals in the nation, and the only hospital in DC to be recognized by The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) for its meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care.

Nurses and every employee at GW Hospital take part in our Service Excellence Program. The program is guided by three standards: "Treat everyone as a guest. Demonstrate professionalism and excellence in the things I do. Practice teamwork." These Service Excellence standards help to determine everything we do and everything we accomplish. Our nurses make a difference in the quality of healthcare we provide to our patients in the communities we serve.

We invite you to join us in Defining Medicine through our RN Residency Program for new graduates.

The GW Nurse Residency Program establishes your foundation as a nurse, as you participate in an extensive 2 year program, which includes classroom instruction tailored to specific clinical areas, a focused evidence based approach to learning, clinical preceptorship and new hire support/mentorship.
