Position Overview

Deliver quality general and psychiatric nursing care to patients with emotional or psychiatric disorders; serve actively and constructively as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team; and to ensure the safety and well-being of each patient. 

Job Functions

  • Displays basic knowledge of treatment procedures

  • Knowledge of interventions common to acute psychotic as well as to non-violent crises intervention practice

  • Proven record of consistently high quality of clinical and interpersonal skills to be a role model to others;

  • Basic knowledge of abnormal psychology; application of this knowledge to nursing care;

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology; thorough familiarity of psychopharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications;

  • Basic teaching and training skills helpful;

  • Problem-solving; organizational and time-management ; crisis intervention skills;

  • Written and oral communication skills;

  • Skills in facilitating and/or co-facilitating process oriented and didactic groups;

  • Must meet eligibility requirements for CPR, and CPI certification

  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a variety of clinical and support team members;

  • Flexibility regarding hours and scheduled work is required;

  • Maintaining information as highly confidential mandatory;

  • Prior knowledge and experience working in a therapeutic treatment environment is a plus;

  • Provides resident assessment, nursing care and evaluation of nursing care

  • Ensures consistent use of the nursing process in providing quality resident care

  • Acts as a resource to residential care staff

  • Serves as a role model for residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes & behaviors

  • Responsible for Medication Administration, Maintaining documentation

  • Develops treatment plans, Carry out physicians orders, etc.

  • Ensure the safety of residents by ensuring that precautions are being followed as written by physician

  • Basic knowledge of abnormal psychology; application of this knowledge to nursing care

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of college of nursing with licensure and registration by the South Carolina Board of Nurse Examiners as a Registered Nurse.

  • BSN or BS preferred. Specialty certification also preferred.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience.

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions.

  • Must possess knowledge of therapeutic relationships, therapeutic processes, adolescent growth and development, limit-setting and behavior management, CPI and CPR.

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips.

  • Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly.

  • Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @Hz. And 2000 Hz with or without correction.

    Ability to perceive detail information through oral communication and to make fine discrimination in sound.

  • Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe patients on the unit and in therapeutic activities.
