We offer a full continuum of care through an integrated system of inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. Progressive professionals in the fields of psychiatry, medicine, nursing, social services, and activity therapy provide our comprehensive services. We are seeking a PRN Registered Nurse who is willing to work at least 6 shifts each month with at least 2 shifts being on the weekend, attend a 5-day orientation and maintain all required trainings. Also they must do the following job duties: Demonstrates knowledge of nursing department philosophy and assumes responsibility for maintaining National Standards of Nursing Practice and Standards of Care for all patients Maintains current knowledge of nursing principles and their application to practice recommended with treatment of all patients Works without direct supervision for each task that needs no supervision Serves as primary channel of communication between shifts, for patient care unit and between departments during designated tour of duty Seeks supervision from immediate supervisor for complex issues that arise within the therapeutic relationship Serves as a positive role model for patients to observe and learn more socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors Plans nursing care in conjunction with the treatment team and/or other staff members Prioritizes nursing care interventions according to individual patient and overall unit milieu needs Responds with therapeutic interventions to disruptive behavior disorders as listed in the DSM-IV Professionally collaborates with all staff to facilitate coordinated contribution to patient care; maintains continuity of care Uses Universal Precautions at all times Participates in the development of patient’s problem solving abilities Intervenes in crisis situations to promote positive growth and development and to reduce dysfunctional patterns of behavior Provides feedback to patients, individually and in group settings, regarding their behavior Demonstrates understanding of chemical dependency and the 12 step program Gives direct patient care, including assistance in activities of daily living Demonstrates effective limit setting skills Conducts educational groups per the need of the patient/milieu Identifies verbal and non-verbal cues for potential aggressive behavior and applies de-escalation techniques Evaluates patient to maintain in least restrictive environment at all times Demonstrates knowledge of and applies seclusion and restraining protocols according to policy Aware of all hospital emergency protocols and on-call communication procedures and assumes responsibility for notifying appropriate persons Intervenes in medical emergencies including proper notification of administration, physicians, primary therapist and family Documents events to include follow-up/resolution in progress notes and incident reporting Processes with other staff and evaluates incidents (i.e. elopement, seclusion, restraints) Charts objectively in BIRP format maintaining the integrity and continuity of nursing care and treatment team plans Documents assessment of mental status in progress note Provides patient/family education and documents teaching method, content and response in patient record Observes and interprets each patient’s behavior, demonstrating an understanding of psychiatric concepts, diagnoses and developmental stage Integrates data gathered from the family, significant others and other treatment team members into the assessment Accurately assesses patients in crisis and takes appropriate action to ensure patient safety Completes comprehensive nursing assessment and initiates nursing interventions within 8 hours of admission Evaluates nursing care given to assigned patients and revises treatment plans as needed, attends conference as applicable Ability to adequately evaluate information provided by patient/family regarding history, allergies, symptoms, etc. as designed on the nursing assessment Observes and interprets each patient’s behavior and physical status, demonstrating an understanding of the detoxification process Demonstrates knowledge of legal implications of nursing practice Delegates tasks and verifies completion Demonstrates full level of awareness of unit milieu and provides guidance to staff Demonstrates ability to establish priorities concerning total unit milieu Addresses issues with coworkers in a prompt manner and keeps supervisor aware of issues that have been addressed Demonstrates knowledge of actions, indications and contraindications, side effects, correct dosages and routes, and nursing implications of drugs in the administration of medications and seeks appropriate intervention for the side effect Serves as a resource in assisting patients and families in understanding medications and treatment, side effects and long-term benefits; or can direct patient/family to alternative resources Identifies age specific health education and medication teaching needed by patients and provides same in consultation with physicians Documents administration of medications, consent for medication , medication education and first dose response per policy and standards of nursing practice Counts and signs for controlled substance medications with off-going and incoming shifts Assures all medications are properly documented and no blanks on MAR’s Obtains new medications from night cabinet or pharmacist, receives orders from physician if medication unavailable Always uses two (2) patient identifiers when administering medications and performing other patient care duties

Job Requirements

Qualified candidates must have the following skills and abilities: 1) Must be a Registered Nurse within the State of Florida with a valid License 2)
