Position Summary:
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients on each clinical unit as assigned, under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing. Patient population served includes both children and adolescents.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
1. Continually assesses the physical and emotional needs of each patient. Initiates an individualized care plan for the patient(s) who have an identified medical condition noted on their Axis III of the master treatment plan and changes in medical condition.
2. Demonstrates awareness of the key elements of the treatment plans for all assigned patients. Initiating a change in medical condition form if a patient has a medical complaint.
3. Implements quality patient care to assigned patients by completing monthly height and weight measurements on all patients.
4. Conducts groups weekly. Group sheets or materials turned into supervisor weekly.
5. Participates with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu by completing a weekly or pass body check on patients documenting findings.
6. Maintains professional standards of preparation, performance, and attitude.
7. Promotes and maintains departmental functioning in a professional manner.
8. Ensures all new patients are scheduled for health and physicals within seven days of admission unless otherwise noted by the Intake Department.
9. Completes and documents weekly vitals on all patients.
10. Ensures the Dietician recommendations have a physician order. Dietician orders reviewed every 30 days.
11. Contacts parents or guardian with each medication change.
12. Completes weekly infection control rounds audit sheet and places in infection control binder.
13. Makes outside doctor appointments for patients.
14. Faxes patient demographic sheet to all vendors to ensure billing information is accurate.
15. Transcribes a physician order and ensures the accuracy of the order by having another nurse verify the transcription within 24 hours.
16. Receives, documents, transcribes, and carries out physicians orders.
17. Ensures all routine and PRN medication is initialed on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) daily.
18. Participates in checking the MAR to ensure accuracy at the end of each month. Check must initialed.
19. Completes monthly skin prevalence checks on assigned patients and documents.
20. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Skills, Experience, Licensure and Educational Requirements
1. Graduation from an accredited school required.
2. Basic understanding of psychiatric nursing theory, and practice, with previous psychiatric clinical experience preferred.
3. Must be at least 21 years of age.
4. Demonstrated clinical competency in providing general nursing care required.
5. Current RN Licensure in the state of Indiana required.
6. CPR and First Aid certification and crisis intervention training required.
