Basic Function

The Sales Learning & Leadership Development Instructional Designer creates dynamic, engaging learning materials at the speed of sales. They are a versatile one-stop-shop that can do a little of everything from task analysis to storyboarding to PowerPoint to graphic design to eLearning creation. They can work in Office; eLearning development tools like Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or TechSmith Camtasia; audio/video editing software, and graphics creation/editing software. They are able to create a variety of materials from activity based classroom training to engaging virtual webinars to state-of-the-art eLearning. They are flexible -- able to work quickly when needed with a minimum of analysis, but also able to dig deep into a gap analysis when needed. They also have a passion for learning and keep current with the latest trends and technologies in the industry.

The learning materials they create improve sales productivity and solve business problems by teaching new skills and improving existing ones, expanding knowledge, and changing behavior. Most of the materials they create will be part of a larger design created by a senior designer, but they will have the ability to do their own thing from time to time.

  • Independently, or as part of a team, design engaging, effective learning solutions based upon audience needs and task analysis that include high level design documentation, recommended delivery method, curriculum content, and supporting materials to ensure mastery of learning objectives.
  • Create and maintain learning materials including instructor guides, participant guides, interactive eLearning, job aids, assessments, explainer videos, scenario-based learning, learning games, and simulations. This may include writing scripts, creating/editing graphics, recording/editing audio and video, and working in a variety of learning development tools.
  • Work quickly and flexibly in order to deliver materials at the speed of sales.
  • Flexible and agile -- comfortable with rapid prototyping and iterative design/development. Aware of, but not bound to ADDIE.
  • Integrate materials into a learning environment to allow easy access and tracking.
  • Identify new training needs and recommend impactful interventions based upon the situation.
  • Participate in team meetings to ensure connection between all parts of Sales Learning & Leadership development.
  • Review project deliverables to ensure alignment with BU business needs and Sales Learning Gold Standards.
  • Mentor less experienced Instructional Designers.
  • Keep current in the latest tools and techniques for creating dynamic, effective learning.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
