Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  The SANE Program Coordinator functions under the supervision of the Department Director and the SANE Program Medical Director. The SANE Program Coordinator coordinates patient flow to assure provision of care and collection of forensic evidence of the sexual assault victim in collaboration with other health team members. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups. Develops, implements, and evaluates an age-appropriate plan of care utilizing the nursing process, clinical skills, and patient education. Provides comprehensive care to sexual assault survivors. Demonstrates competency in conducting a forensic exam to include evaluation for evidence collection. Demonstrates the expertise to provide effective courtroom testimony. Shows compassion and sensitivity to survivors of sexual assault. Utilizes appropriate leadership skills in supervising, delegating, and providing feedback concerning staff performance. Utilizes problem resolution skills. Assists with performance evaluations of staff. Provides an environment to safety for patients, visitors, and employees. The SANE will assess risks to patient safety and implement the appropriate precautions. The SANE will comply with appropriate and approved standards. The concepts of the patient centered care delivery model will provide the foundation for all nursing care.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursinCurrent license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas 

2. Current BLS certification upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment

3. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Training consisting of 64 classroom hours and 96 clinical hours to be completed upon hire

4. Certification as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) – Adult and Pediatric – within 8 months of completion of classroom training per Texas OAG guidelines

5. Progression to independent practice within 15 months of completion of classroom training
