Job Description

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Science Teacher for our private day school Oyster Point Academy. Oyster Point Academy is a special education program for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities who need more structured program than traditional schools can offer. Licensed by the Virginia Department of Education and accredited by VAISSEF. The potential candidate will Plans and implements Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students. Employs specialized teaching strategies to shape adaptive behaviors of students. Serves as role model for students to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors. Reviews psychological, medical, social and educational summaries on students. Provides small group instruction and services to students five days per week and monitors progress regularly. Serves as a case manager by maintaining parental, school liaison, and referral source contacts for assigned students. Communicates learning goals and expectations to each student and utilizes effective teaching techniques to motivate student learning. Implements the Day School Behavior Management Program and adapts to spontaneous needs of the students and the program. Maintains professional boundaries with students. Transports students as needed. Participants in community service projects, educational outings, open houses, and staff meetings as scheduled. Responsible for writing IEPs, monthly progress reports and FAPT reports for assigned home room students. Initiates IEP for assigned students and updates regularly. Calculates and records mid-term and quarterly grade averages on assigned students and records academic and behavioral progress for assigned students. Provides written summary of academic and behavioral progress at the end of each school year, at the time of public school re-integration or separation from the alternative school. Adheres to safety and security regulations, reports potential hazards and documents incident reports. Maintains assigned work area in clean, safe condition.
