Job Details

We are looking for a talented microbiologist in the field of microbial pathogenicity. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to coordinate, multitask efficiently and prioritize work, and to work effectively in a team environment.







Qualified candidates will possess experience performing high complexity microbiology procedures and molecular laboratory procedures independently; experience with complex instrumentation, and knowledge and experience with laboratory safety procedures.







**Responsibilities include but not limited to:**







Perform broad array of standard and specialized microbiology techniques including cultivation of microorganisms on selective and non-selective media, and anaerobic microbiology, that can be applied to strain isolation and culturing, and maintaining frozen stocks. Perform various molecular biology techniques such as polymerase chain reaction techniques (conventional and real time PCR), sequencing and epidemiological typing methods. Operate on an Illumina sequencing platform (MiSeq or HiSeq), nucleic acid isolation and purification from prokaryotic and eukaryotic sources, and library preparation. Perform primary processing and analysis of sequencing data to assess parameters of sequencing quality. Basic sequence data analysis and management including next-generation sequencing bioinformatics tools. Record, interpret, review, and document laboratory findings in electronic laboratory notebooks. Ability to generate high-quality protocols, reports and documents for regulatory and patent submissions.







**Job Qualifications:**







+ Master's degree in microbiology, molecular biology, bacteriology, genomics or a related field with 5+ years of experience.







+ Technical knowledge of next-generation sequencing and basic data analysis including genome assembly, annotation, and computer skills.



+ Experience in analysis of various microbial communities using metagenomics tools such as 16S sequencing and in bioinformatics tools for analysis of metagenomics data is preferred.



+ Familiarity with concepts in statistics, and basic tools to analyze data such as Excel.



+ Ability to effectively manage, organize and prioritize multiple projects, communicating results to the project team and meeting deadlines.



+ Detail oriented, highly organized, and focused.



+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
