Description We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Laboratory Scientist to join our research team. This position is located within the Global Investigative Toxicology group of Drug Safety Research & Development (DSRD). The primary responsibility of this group is to design and carry out investigative toxicology studies in an effort to help position toxicity findings for compounds in Pre-Clinical & Clinical development. These efforts include carrying out hypothesis-driven mechanistic studies, developing novel in vitro models that explain observed toxicity findings, and adapting models for use in future screening assays. These investigative studies typically encompass a wide range of cell and molecular biology endpoints utilizing cell and tissue-based assay systems.


• Reports to a Director of Global Investigative Toxicology;

• Participates in the isolation, culture, and characterization of primary cells from humans and animals for use in cell-based mechanistic assays;

• Develops novel in vitro methods that can be used to address toxicity findings for small and large molecule therapeutics;

• Generates and delivers high quality laboratory-based investigative toxicology data to support portfolio progression and/or mechanistic understanding of toxicity findings;

• Analyzes, documents, and reports laboratory data in accordance with company standards and procedures;

• Capable of working safely under Biosafety (BSL-2+) standards and Pfizer laboratory/chemical safety requirements;

• Effectively communicates experimental findings with both oral and written presentations;

• Functions collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary global team.


Required Skills and Education:

• BA/BS degree in Pharmacology, Toxicology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or similar degree with more than 3 years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.

• Standard laboratory skills including ability to perform mammalian cell culture and DNA/RNA extractions, qRT-PCR, Western Blot, and ELISA.

• Previous experience determining cellular responses to drugs/agents using 96- and/or 384-well assay systems.

• Demonstrated ability to independently research, design, and carry-out laboratory experiments with minimal supervisory direction.

• High proficiency in the MS Office Suite, GraphPad or equivalent and Electronic Laboratory Notebooks

Desired Skills:

• Advanced knowledge of cellular and molecular biology techniques such as cell imaging, advanced 3D and microphysiological cell culture systems, molecular biology and/or gene editing (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9).

• Previous experience evaluating target or compound-based cytotoxicity using in vitro assays.

• Proven ability to: work and think independently and creatively; design a well-controlled experiment; analyze results with a keen, critical mind; organize results and generate presentations; present results in small and large group meetings in a clear and organized manner; be an affable and energetic colleague and team player.


Ability to perform routine laboratory work while standing, walking, sitting, and lifting less than 20 lbs. Ability to perform complex data analysis, mathematical calculations, and perform multiple job duties in time-constrained environment.


Must be willing to work with human blood, blood from non-human primates, animal tissues, retroviral and HIV-derived lentiviral vectors, other viral-based vectors such as adeno-associated virus (AAV), and other viral agents. Must be willing to follow all required biosafety level 2+ guidelines. Ability to occasionally travel between Pfizer sites, mostly within the NE United States (
