Position Summary

 

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer for our Boston, MA location to develop core IT infrastructure including VMware vSphere server clusters and Compellent Fibre Channel petabyte-scale SANs. Automate customer-facing, highly-available web applications running on Linux and Windows servers. Use configuration management/containerization tools including Docker, Puppet, Ansible, and Salt. Design, review, and analyze automation tools for core systems applications and customer-facing three tier web applications or software systems including security systems. Design, build, and tune the full stack of clusters including scalable environments including ones that deal with big data and are virtualized and/or on the cloud. Manage HIPAA confidential information in a secure environment using an understanding of PHI data. Work on corporate systems including Active Directory, Exchange, Asterisk, Confluence, and JIRA. Assist in the management of large hadoop clusters. Perform security and disaster recovery tasks. Responsible for designing, building, and operating systems that provide the foundation and glue for our customer-facing web applications and the petabyte-scale data-factory that feeds them. These systems include: application deployment; configuration management and orchestration; monitoring; big data and distributed computing; sever, storage, and virtualization datacenter; source control; identity, authentication, and authorization; and the development lifecycle. Works closely with our data factory team to design, build, and tune the full stack of a Hadoop cluster to match a new workload as we shift parts of our data factory from Oracle Database to open source distributed storage/compute platforms. Builds Puppet modules to deploy and manage a highly-available message broker cluster. Works with software engineers and quality analysts to integrate it into a system that will help provide notification of timely events, such as hospital admissions, within our applications. Plays a key role in architecting a disaster recovery capability, as well as racking and provisioning the servers that help provide this capability. Work in a cross platform production environment.  Domestic travel required 5% of the time to visit data centers. 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 years related (progressive, post-baccalaureate) experience. Will accept experience gained concurrently.
  • Must also have demonstrated ability with each of the following: 1. Using configuration management/containerization tools including Docker, Puppet, Ansible, and Salt; 2) Designing, reviewing, and analyzing automation tools for core system applications and customer-facing three tier web applications or software systems including security systems; 3) Designing, building, and tuning the full stack of clusters including scalable environments including ones that deal with big data and are virtualized and/or on the cloud; 4) Managing HIPAA confidential information in a secure environment using an understanding of PHI data; and 5) Working in a cross platform production environment. Domestic travel required 5% of the time to visit data centers.
