The Sr. Director, Corporate Security Operations is a member of UnitedHealth Group's (UHG) Corporate Security leadership team. The Corporate Security group is responsible for the Enterprise Workplace Security Program that ensures the protection of the company’s global workforce and physical assets through security risk management platforms.  The Sr. Director will be accountable for developing, communicating and implementing a short-term and long-term security operations strategy that is aligned with the current state and projected growth of UHG.  This will be achieved through the management of a team focused on the following Corporate Security operational platforms: 

  • Physical Security Operations Governance:  The Sr. Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of enterprise policies, procedures and operational processes that govern the physical security controls and operations that protect the people and assets in our facilities around the globe.  This also includes strong internal coordination with existing stakeholders to ensure optimal protection of our data in our facilities.   In addition, the Sr. Director will be accountable for the development and internal alignment of a physical security risk assessment and physical security controls validation process for the Enterprise.

  • Security Incident Management:  The Sr. Director will manage the processes and resources to support a 24/7 global security incident response center.  This includes resource optimization, management of associated policies and procedures, and strategic alignment with other areas of the organization.


The Sr. Director will be accountable for building and maintaining strong internal partnerships with key stakeholders to include Enterprise Information Security, Enterprise Health & Safety, Human Capital/Employee Relations, LCRA (Compliance, Employment Law, Litigation and Privacy), Real Estate Services, and business segment leaders.  This individual will also be responsible for engagement with law enforcement and other external parties as needed.  This role will require rotational after hours on-call availability and up to 20% travel.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, communicate and implement a short-term and long-term Corporate Security operations strategy that is aligned with the current state and projected growth of UHG.
  • Develop and manage an operational budget and provide cost analysis for future financial requirements

  • Create and deploy enterprise policies, procedures and operational processes that govern the physical security controls and operations.

  • Provide direct oversight to a team responsible for a global security incident response platform that includes policies, procedures and technology to manage a 24/7 intake, triage and initial investigation into routine security matters.

  • Lead physical security integration efforts for newly acquired entities.

  • Develop, coordinate and implement a physical security risk assessment and controls validation process.

  • Conduct onsite physical security reviews as needed.

  • Serve as primary liaison to internal and external stakeholders on physical security governance issues.

  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external partnerships.

  • Maintain strong network with local, national and international industry organizations.

Required Qualifications:

  • 15 or more years of relevant security experience in the private and/or public sector to include security risk management, intelligence, law enforcement and/or military
  • Experience in a leadership role and position of authority with accountability for strategic plan development, budget and resource management, and ongoing measurement of success
  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience
  • 5 or more years of private sector security experience
  • Experience managing global security operations and managing a multi-disciplinary team
  • Deep understanding of physical security technology systems, configuration and network design
  • Exceptional working knowledge, in a commercial environment, of security best practices for physical security operations
  • Demonstrated skills in managing complex security risks and operating in a global business environment
  • Outstanding ability to tell a story through PPT and strong verbal and written communication skills; effective formal presentation and facilitation skills in a variety of settings
  • Proven track record of program leadership and developing and managing a corporate physical security program
  • Advanced knowledge of global physical security policies, procedures, and standards
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Chief Security Officer or similar role
  • Bachelor’s degree
