We’re looking for an energetic leader to reimagine and rebuild the Cox Enterprises corporate social responsibility practice. This team currently focuses on several employee and community engagement programs, including support of Cox Conserves, the company’s signature sustainability program, which was created in 2007 by our Chairman, Jim Kennedy.  (Cox Conserves is an operational business function --- the company seeks to send zero waste to landfill by 2024 and become carbon and water neutral by 2044.)  The Sr. Director, Corporate Social Responsibility & Public Affairs will lead sustainability-focused, community and employee-action programs that support the company’s waste, water and energy reduction goals, such as market-based campaigns and awards like Cox Conserves Heroes and Chairman’s Cup.

The Senior Director also will lead strategy for Team Cox, the company’s enterprise-wide employee volunteer program. Team Cox volunteers in Atlanta and across the nation make a difference where we live and work through volunteer projects that protect our waterways, preserve our land and improve our communities.

S/he will lead the company’s national corporate partnerships, focused on fostering diversity, protecting the environment and empowering families and communities.  This leader will also be responsible for corporate giving, state and local community relations, including local, non-profit board placements for Cox executives. In addition, the Senior Director will lead various corporate public affairs initiatives, including supporting and building relationships with various governmental organizations, business chambers and issues-based environmental and economic development coalitions.  S/he will connect external community support to employee engagement activities such as the Cox Employee Giving Campaign.

The ideal candidate is a creative leader with the ability to execute at a high level and manage a team of motivated individuals.  A passion for sustainability and/or conservation is essential. S/he will be charged with assessing the effectiveness of current initiatives and developing, implementing and scaling new programs that reflect Cox’s values.


Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Administrative Services, the Senior Director provides general oversight of day-to-day employee and community engagement programs. 

  • Works in tandem with the Cox Conserves team on community and employee-based, sustainability-focused programs that support the company’s objectives in water, waste and energy conservation. These programs include Cox Conserves Heroes, Chairman’s Cup and campus initiatives such as workplace recycling, elimination of plastic bottles, etc. 
  • Oversees strategy for employee engagement in the national Team Cox volunteer program, as well as implementation of employee giving programs, such as the annual Cox Employee Giving Campaign and Movember.
  • Develops, negotiates, nurtures and directs strategic non-profit relationships for the company that benefit the company’s multiple subsidiaries (Cox Communications, Cox Automotive and Cox Media Group).  This includes relationship-building, development and management of Cox’s national diversity and environmental partnerships with Cox’s human resources and public policy departments.
  • Represents Cox Enterprises, acting as the face of Cox in the community at local and national levels through various external, not-for-profit organizations including Cox National Partners: Trust for Public Land, American Rivers, Ocean Conservancy, National Urban League (NUL), League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and Human Rights Campaign (HRC).  
  • Leads the corporate public affairs practice, which includes developing relationships with and supporting local and state chambers, business coalitions, and various Atlanta and Georgia-based governmental organizations and agencies.
  • Manages the day-to-day responsibilities of the Cox Corporate Giving (contributions) program.
  • Works with nonprofit organizations and Cox executives to enhance partnerships through board placement and service. Continually monitors board-term limits and open opportunities with key partners, and identifies Cox executives with the passion and skillsets needed to best serve the organizations.
  • Partners closely with the company’s human resources and diversity teams to advise and collaborate on diversity strategies for community, supply chain/procurement and employees.  Oversees community outreach and activation components for the Cox Enterprises global diversity strategy. 
  • Serves on national, state and local partner councils/boards as needed.  
  • Manages departmental budget in collaboration with department leadership, specifically responsible for managing all departmental expense with regular tracking and reporting to the Senior Vice President. 
  • Manages, recommends and approves vendor partners and relationships. 
  • Manages two direct reports and works with a team of over 20 other communications, programming and community affairs professionals.  Hires, trains, supervises and develops employees.
  • Manages schedules and workflow; provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of staff; actively promotes and recognizes performance and monitors quality of work.


  • 15+ years of experience in project management, program development, community affairs, business and/or corporate communications including several years in a management/supervisory capacity
  • Strong experience building and scaling programs 
  • Excellent written and verbal skills and project management skills required
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills mandatory
  • Must be able to work closely with executives of all levels and be a team player
  • Good client relationship skills and ability to treat confidential material appropriate also mandatory.
  • Flexibility to work some nights and weekends as community and volunteer events require.
