The Sr. Director of Technical Services is responsible for ensuring top quality and cost effective implementation services for Optum360 clients. This individual provides leadership and direction to the technology delivery resources on their team.


The Sr. Director will lead the teams in the development of objectives, strategies, and tactical plans to ensure the fastest possible implementation of the Optum360 Claims Manager Application. This individual’s chief focus is the timely, efficient and accurate technical implementation of customer sites ensuring successful revenue generation as per the corporate budget. The Sr. Director is responsible for ensuring that all Optum360 Claims Manager Application implementation projects are properly scoped and defined, and that industry standard Project Management protocols are followed. 


The Sr. Director will lead the Implementation Services team to define decision points, analyze options and issues, and recommend significant optimization opportunities to appropriate departmental management groups. This individual will recognize the need and timing for review of project issues or decisions with individual customers, internal groups or third party vendors. Using effective leadership and Project Management techniques, the Director will organize and coach the Implementation services teams to drive creativity, efficiency and effectiveness and to be aggressive in meeting goals, objectives and commitments on time. This individual will recognize process or infrastructure issues that affect overall the broader organization and develop resolutions to such issues. The Sr. Director will assure high quality and timely documentation of all operational project information (project schedule, agenda and minutes, monthly reports, etc.), and information required for implementation management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Strategic and Tactical:

    • Identify and develop strategic options to manage risk and implement customer sites as rapidly as possible while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction
    • Provide technical leadership and direction in the training and orientation of existing and new implementation services resources
    • Facilitate team interactions with management, and manage organizational expectations
    • Excellent leadership, technical, written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to communicate technical ideas to ensure that technical, business and programmatic components are properly defined, agreed to, and followed during Projects lifecycles
    • Ability to act as an internal technical consultant and change agent
    • Establish timelines for completion of projects in collaborations with project team members and communicate timelines using appropriate software tools
  • Corporate Relations:

    • Represents the company with major customers, vendors, business partners and the public
    • Interacts with Development, QA, Coding, Project Management, Finance, Sales and other to obtain timely resolution of customer implementation issues
  • Technical and Managerial:

    • Management of the Project Management and technical aspects of the implementation backlog to ensure accurate backlog resource requirements estimates
    • Provide leadership and management of technical project teams
    • Track project team deliverables that may impact project timelines
    • Ensure that each Statement of Work and/or Work Plan reflects the activities and tasks, including agreed to budgets, resources, and timelines required to achieve project success for each customer implementation
    • Maintain inventory of project assignments across all areas
    • Keen attention to detail and follow-up to ensure consistent and high-quality results
    • Identify resource needs to manage successfully the product pipeline

Required Qualifications

  • Degree emphasis in course work associated with Computer Science, Programming, or System Administration with degree from an accredited university, or a related field of study with 5+ years of experience in Management and Customer facing positions at a senior level
  • 6+ years of related work experience demonstrating strong technical implementation management, preferably in management of software implementations in the healthcare marketplace
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and successfully achieve Project Success (On Time, Within Budget and Meeting Expectations)
  • Demonstrated experience with common project management practices, including work planning, budget management, resource management
  • Demonstrated experience in client relationship management
  • Successful management of a department of at least 10-20 people
  • Back end Healthcare Revenue Cycle domain software applications
  • Experience with claims processing
  • Experience with integrating to the majority of industry recognized claims systems
  • Demonstrated experience with HL7, FTP and batch file processing technologies
  • Experience deploying products running on Oracle and/or SQL
  • SaaS delivery of software applications
  • Extensive experience with Project Management techniques
  • Proficiency with MS Project and Visio
  • MS Product Suite
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • A working knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle, billing companies, medical records, Hospital Claims Processing
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong communicative skills - both written and oral

  • Bachelor’s degree
