Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform monthly close variance analysis to facilitate understanding of monthly results against the financial plan
  • Support overall monthly close process and standard reporting package
  • Drive the overall budget / forecast cycles for Optum Technology, partnering closely with the FP&A team leads
  • Develop and maintain financial reports to clearly communicate actual results, forecasted performance, and variances to plan, forecast and budget
  • Subject matter expert on operating expenses, including reporting, analysis and driving operating expense management and efficiency
  • Drive process improvements including developing innovative approaches for increased efficiency and effectiveness
  • Recognized as key resource among Optum Technology Finance community
  • Participate in senior-level discussions
  • High performer with a good work ethic and desire to learn the business
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn and dig into the details required
  • Role will be an individual contributor to start

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience
  • 8 or more years of progressive experience in Finance / Accounting  with analysis and reporting experience
  • General understanding of financial accounting concepts and reporting
  • Expert level of proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with month end close, journal entries and financial reporting
  • Financial planning / forecasting & analysis experience
  • Hyperion Essbase / SmartView and PeopleSoft experience
  • Variance analysis and reconciliation experience with large data sets

  • Ability take on a task and research information
  • Strong analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a fast paced team environment with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and willingness to seek out and resolve new challenges
  • Self-confident with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Self-motivated to exceed performance goals and willingness to stretch beyond comfort zone while maintaining composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure
  • Ability to build deep, meaningful relationships across the finance community, including FP&A teams in Optum Technology, OptumInsight and Optum Corporate
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
