The Investment Reporting and Analysis Group within Asset & Liability Management (ALM) Finance  reports to Corporate Controllers through the CFO organization and is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial results for the Company’s investment portfolio. Among its many responsibilities, the group prepares GAAP investment disclosures for external filings. In addition to reporting for external constituents, the group contributes to several management reporting packages including the investment results review, and provides other investment-related support to various Corporate areas and Business partners. In doing so, the group is able to interact and collaborate with colleagues within the department and across the organization.  The group also supports the Statutory Reporting team by compiling the quarterly/annual Statutory investment disclosures in external filings such as the investment footnotes (for 5 insurance companies and captive reinsurance entities) and Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A).
 
The Senior Financial Reporting Associate would primarily be responsible for executing assigned tasks and may have full ownership of one or more reporting processes and outputs. The successful candidate will be expected to produce timely, accurate and reliable financial information and enhance their understanding of investment accounting and reporting. This role requires utilizing financial applications (Oracle general ledger, Enterprise Financial Data Warehouse (EFDW), Essbase, GAAP and Statutory Supplementals) to generate investment data in the preparation and/or review of the team’s deliverables including, but not limited to,
 
 
  • Lead the quarterly impairment process which includes scheduling the quarterly meetings, preparing and distributing the monthly review files to the asset managers, receiving the recommendation files from the asset managers, preparing the files for investment operations, reconciling approved impairment amounts to ledger. 
  • Document impairment recommendations and decisions with asset managers and maintain internal documentation, as support for SOX testing.
  • Provide the impairment data that is presented in the Investment footnote, MD&A, and management reporting package.
  • Prepare the quarterly PICA General Account Investment cash flow.
  • Prepare the quarterly PICA General Account Investment off balance sheet.
  • Prepare Statutory investment footnotes for quarterly Blue Book and annual audited financial statements and footnotes filed with various state departments of insurance and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC))
  • Preparation of SOX documentation and analysis of the SOX coverage amounts
  • Prepare information requests from Enterprise Risk Management and various other business partners (standard, ad-hoc)
  • Coordination with control partners and external auditors during quarterly close cycle
  • Identification and implementation of process enhancements and efficiencies

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Relevant work experience is required, 2 years preferred; experience in financial services a plus
Self-motivated and proactive; highly organized, conscientious and detail-oriented
Demonstrated analytical, conceptual and critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively to accomplish shared objectives
Able to effectively prioritize and manage a complex workload in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience with financial reporting applications (Oracle general ledger, EFDW, Essbase)
Experience with Workiva a plus
Knowledge of technical accounting principles and reporting requirements (SSAP and GAAP) preferred
Knowledge of investment products a plus
Flexibility to work overtime as required during peak reporting cycles
