Description The Senior Information Scientist brings new thinking and insights into the organization. A key member of cross-functional matrixed teams including clinicians, scientists, BT and business colleagues, the senior information scientist will be accountable for leading the day-to-day operations of projects related to Information Sciences, managing timelines and deliverables for priority WRD portfolio assets. Lead and inspire a team of highly skilled information scientists in providing external literature and data to the WRD community. Continuous improvements to the efficiency, quality and cost of providing information services will be integral to the success of this position.


+ Hands-on information professional that is technically proficient, able to develop and support solutions to meet business needs.

+ Knowledge and application of text mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence to current and future projects, while also driving the use of modern search technologies within own team.

+ Oversees process improvement projects and initiatives. Identifies opportunities to develop global solutions in the areas of literature reporting, dashboards and visualizations.

+ Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.

+ Integrates published information and with proprietary information, enabling WRD a competitive edge against industry peers.

+ Influence and mentor other information professionals to develop expertise in cutting edge information technologies.

+ Leads the evaluation of new information resources, technologies and search tools.

+ Monitor the quality of information sciences and services to ensure a high standard of value added services.

+ Demonstrate the value of and continually improve information resources and services.

+ Provide input into the strategic direction of the information sciences organization.

+ Initiate the evaluation and selection of appropriate software for text mining, search and classification, and data visualization.

+ Duties include setting objectives for and managing all information science activities, working closely with stakeholders to ensure search products meet research and business needs.

+ Drive resolution and root cause analysis of technical issues with internal and third-party search platform/aggregator vendors.

+ Ensure that the use of published information complies with the terms of publisher licensing agreements and with copyright laws and regulations.

+ Understands WRD strategic direction and operational needs at the global and regional level

+ Defines technology solutions and services to enable the WRD strategy and goals for the Research Units

+ Shapes thinking and vision on how technology solutions can support the goals for the various businesses

+ Manages demand and value realization

+ Point of accountability for administration, management, access control, and support of Ovid and Scifinder. Includes planning for the procurement of licenses with suppliers, and tracking of usage.


+ Ph.D. with >10 years of relevant experience in Library/Information Science preferred

+ Discovery laboratory research experience required

+ >5 years people manager experience required

+ Considerable knowledge of science, medicine, and pharmaceuticals is essential.


Office environment, including flex space, computer desk work, standing for oral presentations.
