Description:

This full-time position (based in Newark, New Jersey) is for a Manager, Analytics (Senior Investran Business Analyst) within the PGIM Investment Operations and Systems department of Prudential Financial. The Senior Business Analyst will support initiatives and operations related to Prudential’s alternative investment platform, which includes investments in private equity, hedge fund, and real estate strategies.  The person will play a key role in the automation and enhancement of portfolio administration and accounting functions, which rely on the alternative investment system Investran.  

 

The Business Analyst will be looked upon to serve a multitude of roles and will partner with both external and Prudential technology and business communities in analyzing data, recommending solutions, performing testing, supporting project implementation and identifying and implementing workflow enhancements.  The individual will regularly collaborate with members of various levels within the Alternative Asset Group (AAG), Portfolio Administration, and Accounting teams.   This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment which provides excellent opportunities to partner to achieve business objectives and vision.  This position leverages financial/investments knowledge as well as technical skills and requires strong analytical, conceptual, communication and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the project lead and/or play a leading role for multiple concurrent projects. 
  • Hands-on business analysis of alternative investment Portfolio Administration and Investment Accounting initiatives.
  • Partnering with investment professionals to define solutions to business needs.  This includes eliciting, analyzing and documenting business requirements, identifying multiple approaches, making recommendations and facilitating brainstorming and requirement walk-through sessions.
  • Analyze and document business requirements for internal program (automated interfaces, reporting or utilities) and vendor software enhancements based on business needs (e.g., changes in accounting policy, process re-engineering, etc.).  Follow-up on enhancements and coordinate through installation in production. 
  • Vendor management; interacting with data providers and software vendors to coordinate changes.
  • Applying investment related analytic formulas to validate vendor and internally generated analytics / valuations / performance.
  • Taking deep analytical dives on data while being able to summarize and communicate findings at an executive level.
  • Designing and/or writing reports to facilitate ad-hoc analytical / information inquiries, as well as to serve as testing tools.
  • Identifying / quantifying impact of requested changes on existing processes and reports.
  • Troubleshooting production and test issues to perform root cause analysis, reconciliations, recommending corrective action and leading the resolution efforts.
  • Conducting project related tests which include: developing detailed test plans, test cases and expected results; conducting tests; evaluating and documenting results.

Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience (5 Years) with the alternative asset management system, Investran, required 
  • Practical experience (5 Years) with Business Analysis (BA) or Systems Business Analysis (SBA) is required
  • In depth understanding (5 Years) of various alternative investment types and their related analytics, characteristics and processing.
  • Experience with supporting alternative investment tax reporting a plus
  • Candidate must have highly developed analytical, conceptual, quantitative and problem-solving skill sets. Position requires the ability to quickly troubleshoot issues and think outside of the box.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) are required.  The position will require constant interaction with senior investment professionals as well as technologists and accounting/operational support teams.
  • Project management / leadership experience is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize work to meet all deadlines is required.
  • Masters or Bachelors degree in Finance, Computer Science or similar is desirable.
  •  Strong working knowledge of designing and/or writing reports and ad-hoc queries using Cognos Report Studio, or similar Business Intelligence (BI) tools, is preferred, along with the ability to read / understand SQL.
  • Investment / financial reporting and ad-hoc information request experience is a plus.
  • Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience is a plus. Prior experience with application / database / report design and testing is highly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, resourcefulness and attention to detail, along with a true passion for quality and accuracy are a must.
  • Strong desire and ability to learn quickly and connect the dots, as well as to work with minimal guidance and supervision. While the ability to work independently is critical, equally important is the ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Client focused and results oriented work ethic is required.  Must be a highly motivated and ambitious self-starter who thrives in a dynamic work environment.
  • Technical experience with relational databases / data modeling and/or experience with computer programming are a big plus.
  • Familiarity with Burgiss platform a plus
