Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior IT Database Consultant for our Austin, TX location to provide Hadoop administration support, which includes infrastructure setup, software installation (MapR, Hortonworks, Cloudera, etc.), configuration, upgrading/patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and working with development team to install components (Hive, Pig, etc.) and manage MapReduce jobs. Uphold enterprise policy guidelines and recommend new and improved guidelines to ensure compatibility and better service for end-users, perform capacity monitoring and short and long term capacity planning in collaboration with development resources, system administrators, and system architects. Maintain security according to best practices and generate security solutions that balance auditor requirements with user requirements. Automate using shell scripting and participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and customer service experience. Implement DR strategy for Hadoop distributions collaborating with storage and Unix teams. Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems and concerns associated with big data functionality (hardware and software). Stay up-to-date on the most current releases on Hadoop (major distributions), including compatibility issues with operating systems, new functionalities, and utilities. Monitor overall standards and procedures. Assist in integrating various systems. Consult with users, determine requirements, and make design recommendations. Educate and support onboarding of new team members. Continually monitor industry developments in the BigData and NoSQL Database area and share knowledge and provide recommendations to the organization on how to best leverage tools. Participate in the evaluation and recommendation of appropriate hardware and software resources and provide feedback. Lead a team of Hadoop Administrators and participate in coaching, team building, and training/education of team members. Assist with communication interfaces/integration to associated systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 years related (progressive, post-baccalaureate) experience.
  • Must also have each of the following: 1) One year of HADOOP administration experience; 2) One year working with administration, troubleshooting, and upgrades of the Hive component of the Hadoop ecosystem; 3) Three years of UNIX experience, including shell scripting; 4) One year of data analytics experience; and 5) Five years of application administration experience. Will accept experience gained concurrently.
