Southwest Medical, part of OptumCare, is a multi-specialty group of physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants consisting of over 300 providers, 21 medical health centers including six urgent care clinics, four convenient care centers, two lifestyle centers catering to older adults, an outpatient surgery center, home health, hospice and palliative care services, plus E-visits and online options via Now Clinic telemedicine technology. Performs mammography procedures per department protocol. Responsible for daily operations within the Mammography department including orienting staff, monitoring workflow, patient schedules, mammography access, assists with daily huddles, lean management for staff, assist with equipment failures and scheduling maintance. Works closely with the Mammography Coordinators to ensure adherence of department protocols and r egulatory compliance. The lead tech will perform all duties and assist in protocoling breast imaging referrals, maintaining department statistics, ordering supplies, managing the Mammography staffing schedule for multiple sites, preparing for ACR / State accreditation, working with the radiologists to resolve issues, Mammography Technologist Tech QA and any other assigned lead duties that arise based on operational needs. This staff will help cover their shift as well as any needed shifts, days and sites for imaging as necessary based on operating needs including Holidays and weekends as necessary.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Greets and prepares patients for examination, explains specific procedures to be performed
  • Performs screening and diagnostic mammography exams using excellent positioning and exposure techniques and examines developed films for technical quality. Follows written order or self-referral policy
  • Conducts quality control tests following ACR and department policy and procedure manuals
  • Ensures both patient images and quality control tests are processed appropriately and stored in PACs
  • Advanced knowledge of Acquisition Work Station and RIS applications. Correctly begins and ends all patients in the Imagecast RIS system
  • Maintains current ARRT, CPR, and State of Nevada certifications; provides supervisor with proof of continuing education
  • Uploads comparison CD's into PAC's
  • Ensures all associated paperwork is scanned into PAC's or sent to HIMs
  • Assists technologist and mammography coordinators in the resolution of complex issues and problems
  • May also be assigned to other modalities provided incumbent is certified or licensed in those modalities
  • Required annual TB testing, and annual mask fit testing
  • Must be flexible to work overtime and on call as needed. May rotate within Imaging Services Department to include satellite offices, reliable transportation required
