Description

The Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy & Investments, is part of the team dedicated to supporting Cox’s strategic vision and long-term growth and profitability objectives, reporting to the SVP/GM, Corporate Strategy & Investments.  The team’s responsibilities include strategy development, including diversification, portfolio monitoring and evaluation, capital allocation, and evaluation and execution of transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, investments and/or joint ventures.  The position requires ambition, humility, passion, creativity, dedication, discipline, and self-awareness, combined with a desire to work hard and learn continually. 

Skills required for success in this position include, but are not limited, to:

• Research and analytical competence: Gather, process, assimilate, analyze, summarize, and develop insights from vast amounts of information – whether qualitative or quantitative

• Financial literacy: Understand financial statements and accounting and tax policies; develop and utilize analytical models for financial projections and business valuation

• Curiosity and judgment: Interest in learning and exploring; ability to determine and focus on “what matters”

• Project management:  Lead or manage teams focused on the completion of specific projects or tasks, with clear definition of objectives and the steps and timing required for completion

• Interpersonal flexibility: Collaborate effectively with teammates and colleagues across the company and with external resources

Corporate Strategy & Investments organizes its work around teams focused on prioritized projects and tasks.  Staffing on teams will be dynamic over time, to give members of the team an opportunity to work with each other in varied roles and capacities, to work with different groups across the company and externally, and to ensure a diversity of learning and personal development opportunities and challenges.

Position Responsibilities:

• Contribute to meeting the team’s goals and priorities

• Communicate consistently and effectively about your activities, progress, and issues

• Create presentations, memoranda, and related analyses as required for projects

• Understand Cox’s operating division strategies, industries, and competitive dynamics

• Collaborate with Cox’s operating divisions on strategic and growth initiatives, as appropriate

• Help identify and evaluate interesting strategic diversification opportunities for Cox

• Participate on and/or lead cross-functional internal teams and work streams (e.g., due diligence), including external resources, on strategic transactions or priority projects

• Support Cox’s initiatives in the Atlanta venture ecosystem

• Imagine and execute projects to improve the team’s organizational capabilities and capacity

• Monitor and reflect upon important, impactful external trends and developments

• Develop and nurture external relationships of potential value in meeting the team’s goals

• Help develop and mentor team members to support the team’s goals and individual professional development goals

• Represent the company at external conferences and events

• Whatever is necessary to complete the job – assuming it’s legal!


Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Accounting, or related fields

• Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Accounting, or related field (desirable)

• CPA, CFA, or comparable certifications (desirable)

• Four years or more work experience at professional services firms (e.g., investment banking, consulting, accounting) (desirable)

• Strategic thinker with business acumen, good judgment, and common sense

• Passion for identifying opportunities and problem solving

• Robust analytical and critical thinking skills, strong attention to details

• Excellent presentation and communications skills, both written and verbal

• Exceptional ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and project teams

• Effective time management, organizational, and prioritization skills

• Able and willing to take initiative and work independently

• Demonstrated ability to execute multiple projects

• Ability to adapt to changing assignments and balance multiple and/or conflicting priorities

• Desire to excel in fast-paced, cross-functional, and results-oriented work environment
