Job Details


Responsible for the management and coaching of the Customs team to achieve the following:

+ Responsible for the customs authorizations of the different Pfizer legal entities (current and new requests).

+ Together with Customs Manager be the point of contact (POC) between Pfizer and the Customs Authorities on local, regional, national (different EU member states) and EU level.

+ People manager of the customs team and liaison with the other Pfizer departments. Ensures that staffing is adequately to operational requirements including back-ups and month closures.

+ Guarantee on time execution and legal compliancy of all customs declarations (import and export) in line with the applicable customs legislation.

+ **Ensure the compliant execution of shipments through Global Trade Services (GTS) and in alignment with Corporate Policy** .

+ Aiming for continuous improvements in respect of operational processes and supporting system (SAP GTS).

+ Accountable for AEO certification and ongoing adherence to all requirements and steer towards further customs simplifications, as stipulated in the UCC, generating added value for the company.

+ Provide strategic direction of further development and enhancements of the **department and the overall customer strategy within Belgium and Europe**


Customs authorizations

+ Have detailed view on all current customs authorizations and impact on operational processes and system configurations.

+ Steer for new requests or changes to existing authorizations as improvement activity.

+ Coordinates renewals as required.

Relation with Customs authorities

+ Maintain good relationship with Belgian customs authorities, being all levels (local, regional, national (different EU member states) and EU.

+ Resolve files of dispute between customs authorities and Pfizer.

+ Correspondence towards customs authorities concerning for example demands of payments or refunds, or any other specific demand.

+ Grasp opportunities for Pfizer through multiple platforms (BE Nationaal Forum, EFPIA, ...)

Supervision and People management

+ **Create a culture of compliance and accountability**

+ Control, plan, supervise and steer the daily customs affairs team.

+ Assist colleagues in resolving day-to-day technical and operational issues.

+ Initiate or support ER request from the team for system improvements till go-live aiming legal compliancy, efficiency improvements, reporting requirements, ...

+ KPI reporting towards Pfizer management concerning customs procedures: import, export, bonded warehouse. get a view on the issues and propose together with the team for improvements.

+ Monitor and follow-up of holiday requests and others leaves for the whole customs team.

+ Yearly closing customs bonded stock records for the bonded warehouse.

+ Follow-up of the preparation and executing the customs formalities related to destruction of bonded goods including the customs verification of goods.

+ Responsible for all other documentations regarding customs procedures (EUR.1 certificates or declarations of origin, A.TR, IM A, ...)

+ Coordinating cross-departmental issues or projects and be the Customs POC within the Pfizer organization.

+ Ensures that all customs colleagues are adequately trained at all times on Pfizer policies/procedures/customs legislation and related changes

Guarantee legal compliancy

+ Follow-up of new customs regulations/programs and ensure that new regulations are implemented upfront adequately.

+ Seek for opportunities for the Pfizer customs procedures.

+ Have a pro-active mindset in respect of legislation thus avoiding last minutes operational impact.

Continuous improvements

+ Both on operational and on system level propose and initiate improvements aiming to improve the day-to-day activities of the customs team.

+ Make a yearly and long term plan of structural changes and improvements that contribute to the efficiency and transparency of the customs organization.

+ Be part of company level improvements with customs implications.

+ **Collaborate with GTC CoE on the development/improvement of internal controls based on audit results or process failures**


+ Initiate the request for an AEO certificate through updating the AEO questionnaire.

+ Project lead for the AEO audit.

+ Follow-up of any organizational changes that impact the AEO certificate.

+ Once AEO certificate granted, start initiating new customs simplification authorizations.

+ Create a plan for execution

+ Liase with stakeholders to get an understanding of the requirements

+ Investigate need for and implementation of bi-lateral agreements

+ Build up roles and responsibilities matrix and resource estimation

+ Build an operational team with adequate competencies to operate the function

+ **Collaborate with the GTC CoE on regional strategy and deployment of trade activities**

**Financial Accountability**

Manages the team's operational budget.

Academic exam in logistics, finance, supply and customs regulations


Minimum 10 years' experience in customs related matters

Minimum 5 years' experience as people manager


Fluent in English and Dutch, French is a valuable asset (verbal & written)


Strong computer literacy (preferably SAP GTS), conceptual and analytical skills
