Pfizer is looking for an exceptional data scientist to join the Real World Data and Analytics team. This team is responsible for providing analytical support across the enterprise by identifying opportunities, implementing analytic approaches, and executing analyses based on Real World Data (RWD).

We're looking for someone that's experienced and passionate about data and healthcare, is not afraid to experiment and fail, and is capable of working in large, complex environments.

The data scientist will need a combination of business focus, strong analytical and problem solving skills and programming knowledge to be able to quickly cycle hypothesis through the discovery phase of the project. He/She will need to be creative thinker, able to learn about and understand complex clinical issues, and propose innovative ways to look at problems by using data and analytics. He/She needs to be able to conduct complex analyses, as well as synthesize and present the results to technical and business audiences.

This individual will be expected to constantly scan and evaluate the external environment to identify new tools and capabilities that can improve internal analytic efficiencies and business outcomes.


+ Partner with internal and external stakeholders to understand multifaceted business drivers and implement adaptable data driven analytic approaches that leverage RWD and real world evidence (RWE).

+ Collaborate and work closely with cross-functional teams to define and execute a broad range of analyses using RWD and other patient data.

+ Apply cutting edge Machine Learning algorithms to identify new insights and build new analytic capabilities.

+ Create meaningful presentations and analyses that tell a "story" focused on insights, not just data

+ Be able to synthesize methodology, and results of analyses into actionable insights and be able to communicate findings to both scientific and business audiences

+ Work with internal and external partners to ensure continuous improvement and innovation based on emerging technologies and opportunities to advance Pfizer as the industry leader

+ Oversee business implementation of analytic strategies and identify opportunities for improvement

+ Serve as the subject matter expert, consult internal and external collaborators and promote best practices for using RWD/RWE to answer complex business questions

+ Define and implement analytic approaches that leverage RWD/RWE to demonstrate the value of Pfizer's product portfolio.

+ Proactively identify opportunities that improve the efficiency of the analytic production function.

+ Proactively identify and evaluate new data sources and analytic methods that enable new business capabilities


+ M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related field

+ - Deep understanding of at least one of the following families of machine learning techniques:

+ clustering; linear and non-linear, logistic regression, decision trees, SVM and kernel methods, Bayesian techniques, neural networks

+ - Proficiency with software analytic tools and exploratory data analysis (statistical tests, hypothesis testing, data pre-processing, etc.)

+ - Extensive experience with scripting languages (R or Python)

+ - Experience with SQL (complex queries and analysis services)

+ - Experience with visualization tools (e.g. Tableau) a plus

+ - Working knowledge of data manipulation, statistical and machine learning packages of choice (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, R-Shiny, etc.)

+ - 5+ years of experience, preferably in the healthcare industry, but other fields may be considered
