*Role Description*

The Clinical Biomarker Research Technologies (CBRT) Flow Cytometry group works with clinical and translational teams across Pfizer research units to develop, implement, and provide in depth data analysis for flow cytometry-based biomarker assays to support exploratory, target engagement, and PoM endpoints in early phase clinical studies. We are seeking a Senior Principal Scientist to lead a team of junior and senior scientists in assay development, fit-for-purpose validation studies, data review and compliance with GCLP processes, and development of industry-leading novel technologies. S/he will be responsible for oversight of the flow cytometry laboratory, delegating project lead and support roles, and will enable staff training and professional development. The candidate will create strong partnerships with research units, clinical and translational teams, and interface with CROs for technology and data review. S/he should have proven experience in laboratory oversight and delivery of cytometry-based biomarkers in pre-clinical and/or clinical studies, and have strong knowledge of clinical/translational immunology to enable biomarker objectives.



*Responsibilities*

*Lead a group PhD, MS/BS and contracted staff scientists in the development, validation and clinical implementation of high content flow cytometry biomarker assays using established and novel methodologies; lead follow up efforts for data analysis, QC, data reporting and follow up discussions with the project teams for data integration and appropriate decision making. *Develop partnerships with clinical and translational teams for program needs; provide subject matter expertise as applied to cellular biology, immunology, immuno-oncology and cytometry based biomarkers in a matrix environment; work with translational teams to establish biomarker strategy and sourcing model for internal vs. outsourced assay support. Deep expertise in flow cytometric techniques including imaging FACs, conventional and high content multi-color FACs platforms, cell sorting, and familiarity with CyTof technologies.*Identify and implement new technologies, techniques, and high content data visualization/analysis tools to influence clinical decision making and maintain the laboratory at the forefront of cellular biomarker science*Provide GLP/GCLP oversight for execution of validation and clinical studies supporting Pfizer drug candidates in clinical development, and lead efforts to streamline these processes*Apply understanding of fit-for-purpose assay development to projects in development; effectively balance assay rigor against resource needs and study goals*Proactively gather input from colleagues, teams & management to avoid/address issues at functional level



*Qualifications*

*Ph.D. (>6 years), M.S. (>8 years), B.S. (>12 years) in relevant scientific field with pharmaceutical, biotech or CRO experience; significant experience in development, characterization, and implementation of quantitative flow cytometric assays for pre-clinical and/or clinical biomarker assays.*Experience and knowledge in operation of modern flow cytometry platforms and associated data analysis (i.e. FlowJo, FCS Express) /LIMS systems, other documentation and data management tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).*Minimum of 5 years leading a laboratory team with technical and scientific oversight; demonstrated experience in implementing established and novel cytometry-based technologies.*Knowledge and application of immune cell functional, phenotypic and sample preparation techniques as applied to flow cytometry.*Experience with high content flow cytometry data analysis concepts and tools.*Knowledge and understanding of GLP and GCLP regulations and guidelines with proven track record of internal/external influence on regulated strategy for biomarker research.*Ability to coach and mentor colleagues, act decisively and influence in a matrix environment.*Excellent oral and written communication skills.* Ability to deal with project and organizational change while supporting the organization.*Record of significant publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and external and internal presentations.PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Laboratory work which will include working with clinical and preclinical biological samples and high potency (OEB5) compounds. Will require lifting, standing, walking, bending, and ability to perform mathematical calculations and complex data analysis.NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS Ability to travel cross-sites as needed. Ability to work weekends or extended hours as projects and timelines dictate.
