Senior Product Development Manager - Video Services

Position Summary

The Senior Product Development Manager of Video Services is responsible for the ideation, strategy, development, and launch of video products for business customers.  This individual is responsible for developing an articulated product strategy and vision relative to commercial service deployments for existing products, as well as building new product growth opportunities for commercial field sales, including bulk video, IP TV services, and Hospitality services.  While this position will focus primarily on Video Services, this individual may be called upon to fulfill similar responsibilities for voice and/or internet/networking services as the need arises. 

Performing this role involves spearheading all product development activities in accordance with the existing product development methodology; managing cross functional teams to develop product requirements, concept design and testing of new services; researching and preparing business case justification for new product investments; authoring RFPs and coordinating bid activities with vendors and Cox functional teams; managing vendor selection; developing competitive assessments; and identifying strategies for product deployment and launch.  Job responsibilities will also include overall product enhancement and platform migration as it relates to the existing product portfolio.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Follow and research industry and customer trends in order to provide inputs into ideation process
  • Develop articulated product strategy for the video services commercial product portfolio; build product roadmap to execute on strategy
  • Regularly gather input from customers and lead users in order to find and address product weaknesses or market opportunities
  • Move ideas through a project funnel from ideation, to concept, to development, to trial, and finally to deployment as the champion and owner of the initiatives
  • Lead cross functional teams to build profitable business cases supporting new product development, that can be integrated into the company’s financial plan
  • Design, author and maintain product requirements for new products and customer applications
  • Manage development and product release with all relevant functional groups to include Engineering, Marketing, Billing, Customer Care, Field Services, NOC, Legal/Regulatory, and Sales
  • Provides leadership and insight in competitive product analysis, including commercial customer use behavior and emerging trends and applications.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for the respective product portfolio
  • Work closely with integrators, vendors and internal teams to deploy and support our products
  • Oversee RFI/RFP and field test initiatives required for vendor evaluations
  • Lead and manage product enhancements and migrations to new technology platforms
  • Coordinate with, and provide leadership for, project managers and cross-functional groups on project schedules/deliverables
  • Manage resolution of development issues
  • Manage day-to-day beta trial activities, document trial results assessment, and institute necessary product modifications after trial 
  • Drive effective product launches in each system and facilitate training rollout plans
  • Ensure that commercial products are accurately represented in the customer support process


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to work with large cross functional teams in a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrate strong technical and market knowledge with video products and services.
  • Bachelors of Science or Bachelors of Art degree required
  • 5-8 years of product development/management experience in the telecommunications industry.  
  • In depth technical knowledge of video services and network architectures preferred
  • Experience with product development life-cycle and adherence to product development methodologies
  • Well defined analytical skills and business modeling experience are required
  • Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent communications skills with a proven record of managing a cross functional project team
  • Track record in delivering multiple projects on time and within budget in a time critical environment
  • Project matrix manager or supervisory experience 
  • Willingness to travel
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Technical knowledge of voice services (e.g. VoIP, SIP) and switching/network architectures (e.g. circuit, packet, IMS, PacketCable) and/or internet/networking services (Internet, IP-VPN, Metro Ethernet) preferred
