Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
The Sr. Engineer of DC Design Build Sustainment leads Supply Chain projects for assigned buildings working onsite to execute and implement the distribution center designs. This position ensures scope definition, facility design, quality, schedule, and financial objectives are met for new construction, conversions, remodels, related programs and/or major capital improvements. They support the design and execution coordination of DC projects to include site plan (layout and flow), facility (form and function), and tenant improvements for assign building sites. The tenant improvements include operational layout (FF&E, striping, signage, guarding, etc.), material handling and storage systems, and IT (data/power) and AP plans.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • 25%- Manage scope associated with upgrade/retrofit activities for assigned distribution center buildings. 
  • 25%- Determine and manage capital and expense budgets associated with all assigned building level projects. Continually evaluates means to reduce construction costs and duration of projects. 
  • 25%- Develops and administers the scheduling and progress against of all assigned building level projects. Provides regular status updates and associated reporting (progress, budget/financial and other reports as needed). 
  • 15%- Identify and implement innovative technologies to drive operational efficiency within the Distribution Center facilities. Develop analysis and associated business case to demonstrate return on capital invested. 
  • 10%- Assist in the development and maintenance of Design Criteria Manual (DCM) documentation and Exhibit Drawing standards for all platforms/DC formats.
NATURE AND SCOPE
This position reports to the Sr Manager, Design, Build and Sustainment.
This position has no direct reports.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Environment:
Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights.
Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel more than 50% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience:
4 years

Physical Requirements:

Most all of the time is spent sitting in the same position or standing/walking or there is some requirement to lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).

Additional Qualifications:


Preferred Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of warehouse processes. 
  • Familiarity with the principles of material handling system (MHS) design. 
  • Familiarity with conveyor control systems (CCS), warehouse control systems (WCS) and warehouse management systems (WMS). 
  • Familiarity with the determination of warehouse storage systems requirements determination and related design principles. 
  • Understanding of facility construction principles and related disciplines to include Architectural, MEP, General Contractors, and subcontractor resources. 
  • Experience with management of projects ranging from $50K - $20M.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to distribution facility layout/design, construction, and concepting / designing of material storage and handling systems is essential for success in this role. 
  • Detailed knowledge of technical specifications and skill with ensuring compliance by outside vendors. 
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to material handling and storage system layout, design, and construction. 
  • Detailed knowledge of technical specifications and skill with ensuring compliance by outside vendors. 
  • Ability to think objectively and interpret meaningful themes from quantitative and qualitative methods. 
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills. Ability to develop and deliver executive level presentations. 
  • Ability to lead, influence, and drive for results through cross-functional teams at all levels. 
  • Ability in effectively managing large strategic projects. 
  • Ability to implement large-scale change. 
  • Application familiarity/proficiency: CAD, Microsoft Office Suite (incl. Visio, Project, Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook).
