Description:

Within PepsiCo's Nutrition Category R&D, the Global Grains Formulations team is charged with delivering breakthrough and reframe innovation via technology-driven solutions. In that capacity, the team develops products and product chassis primarily to globally-chartered projects for the Quaker brand.

We are looking for an R&D Senior Scientist to lead the development of the rapidly growing Innovation pipeline. S/he will drive the complete development through commercialization and launch of grains-based products, as well as forward-compatible product chassis to be rolled out to multiple markets. S/he will utilize scientific methods to develop knowledge that creates business opportunities to support the Grains Category Strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop product formulations that leverage expertise in grains technology, food chemistry and food ingredient functionality
  • Provide technical feasibility assessment/perspectives related to new product development
  • Design and execute experiments, and analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product formula
  • Support development of new technology to grow the business
  • Leverage external and internal experts for key analytical and sensory research
  • Perform basic economic evaluations on ingredients, ingredients suppliers, and product formulations
  • Document complete product formulation, ingredients and sensory specifications for new products in the documentation system
  • Participate as an active member of cross-functional business development teams comprised of individuals from a variety of disciplines, including Insights, Marketing, Procurement, Engineering and other groups



Education/Certifications:

  • MS or Ph.D. (preferred) in food science or related field


Work Experience:

  • MS + 3-5 years experience with a CPG company or PhD + 1-2 yrs experience (including internships and coop)


Skills & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in applied research, with emphasis in food-related ingredients and processes
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills to partner with multiple stakeholders in a matrixed environment
  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of ingredient functionality and advanced problem solving skills to translate strategic direction into tactical plans and implementation activities
  • Strongly influences project direction on complex projects
  • Exhibit strong technical capability and curiosity that can be applied to project assignments
  • Ability and interest to work in laboratory, pilot plant and manufacturing scale environments
  • Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks

Other:

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% domestic and international travel
