The Senior Director Sales is responsible to address client needs with Optum’s portfolio of solutions, establish and develop senior - level C - suite relationships, and achieve client loyalty and growth outcomes.


If you are located in Northeast U.S., you will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accountable to drive incremental new sales and maintain and grow existing client relationships to create substantial business development growth for Life Sciences
  • Drive growth objectives for team to achieve sales quota across assigned Life Sciences business with focus on selling data to Academia, Foundations and Non Profit organizations
  • Enhance the client experience and overall client satisfaction, maintaining and improving Net Promoter Scores (NPS)®
  • Ensure retention and expansion of existing client revenue base
  • Explore new and innovative opportunities and market approaches to drive growth of the Life Sciences business within the Non - Pharma Markets
  • Serve as executive sponsor and / or manage enterprise relationships for the largest clients with the highest potential revenue opportunity
  • Drive sales, product development and distribution of Optum’s most complex solutions across the Life Sciences market to solve client needs and drive growth
    • Represent the voice of client to ensure Optum understands clients’ strategic objectives and initiatives that support the business strategy
    • Partner with client delivery teams to ensure client expectations of service and execution are clearly understood, communicated and met
    • Provide input to relevant Optum colleagues on market trends as represented by our clients
  • Cultivate and deepen C - suite and complex client relationships
    • Provide strategic, thought - leadership on the client's industry and market
    • Understand the client’s unique business environment and challenges
    • Utilize consulting selling and collaboration skills to architect Optum wide solutions
  • Direct strategic, client specific initiatives which deliver “value add” services identified through annual client planning and execution of client business plans
  • Serve as primary point of contact for comprehensive Optum opportunities and be escalation point for client issues to remove barriers and ensure high quality service
  • Communicate and present effectively at multiple audiences and levels (listening, written and verbal communication)
  • Majority of time is spent out of the office with clients


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of strategic business development / client management or related experience in driving deep, productive relationships with organizations at the C - Suite level
  • Experience selling data to large clients
  • Experience selling to Academia, Non - profits and Foundations
  • Knowledge of grant process and funding resource processes
  • Proven ability to analyze complex market opportunities and develop creative solutions to a wide variety of unique market problems
  • Advanced consultative selling skills with the ability to successfully construct solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively message, position and present information for client impact and influence
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, collaboration, and listening skills
  • Proven ability to operate and effectively navigate in a highly complex, matrix environment
  • Ability to successfully negotiate complex internal operating environments with a high level of collaboration. Role models an enterprise point of view

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or an advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MHA)
  • Healthcare experience
  • Direct experience selling data to research, academia, non - profits and foundations
  • Northeast based location
