Our colleagues have the opportunity to grow and develop a career that offers both individual and company success; be part of an ownership culture that values diversity and where all colleagues are energized and engaged; and the ability to impact the health and lives of millions of people. Pfizer, a global leader in the biopharmaceutical industry, is continuously seeking top talent who are inspired by our purpose to innovate to bring therapies to patients that significantly improve their lives.

Within the Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU), the Metabolism group is focusing on identifying novel therapies to improve metabolic homeostasis in patients afflicted with metabolic disease, cardiovascular diseases and related complications. Our goal is to build an exciting team focused on deep mechanistic understanding of the peripheral control of energy metabolism. The aim is to recruit a scientifically and technically strong in-vivo physiology and in-vitro cell biology expert with a common goal of developing drugs to combat metabolic syndrome.

The successful candidate is expected to possess strong technical skills in the areas of peripheral regulation of metabolism and in-vitro cell biology techniques. Mechanistic understanding of regulatory pathways controlling metabolism is essential, experience in adipose tissue metabolism is preferred but not absolutely necessary.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

• Perform in-vitro, ex vivo and in vivo exploratory and validation experiments from the bench to preclinical models to support early stage discovery programs.

• Address key mechanistic and pharmacological scientific questions.

• Have experience with rodent handling.

• Be proficient with cell culture technique. Primary cell culture experience is preferred but not necessary.

• Apply scientific and technical expertise to drug discovery programs to impact the future of new drug candidate development.

• Maintain a 'cutting edge' awareness of preclinical scientific and technical developments.

• Ability to present at both internal and external meetings

• PhD with a minimum of 1-2 years of post-doc experience, with a successful track record of scientific achievements through scientific publications and presentations.

• Possess strong written/verbal communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with scientists working in other disciplines including chemistry, drug metabolism, drug safety and clinical medicine.

• Drug discovery experience preferred but is not essential.
