*Role Description*

Expertise in Industrial Safety - especially in the high hazard technical areas.*Administer comprehensive programs to facilitate Pfizer compliance with Federal and State regulations as well as Pfizer standards addressing high hazard industrial safety such as lockout/tagout, machine guarding, confined space, fall protection, hot work, risk assessments, safety culture, safety inspections, contractor safety possessing experience with job hazard and root cause analysis and basic understanding of industrial hygiene. *Solid experience in building successful safety cultures in a Voluntary Protection Program setting and providing technical expertise in health and safety to implement proactive strategies to reduce risks to Pfizer colleagues and contractors. *Demonstrates the ability to successfully solve programs, manage projects and influence and engage with multiple levels of the organizations, has the ability work well and to lead cross functional teams.


Responsible for working with key stakeholders to evaluate the technical, safety and regulatory impact of proposed equipment and process changes as it applies to health and safety and provide leadership in risk-based decision making. Responsible for leading comprehensive risk assessments.Provides key technical support/review for the evaluation of machine guarding, lockout, confined space, fall protection, hot work, powered industrial equipment, contractor safety for the Kalamazoo site for the purposes of ensuring a high standard of compliance to all relevant MIOSHA regulations and Pfizer standards. Successfully implements safety programs serving as a site wide technical expert for such disciplines. (Independently or in conjunction with a team).Successfully uses recognized system analysis tools to perform risk assessments, incident investigations, program auditing that result in identifying value-added technically feasible improvements. Successfully manages EHS projects, is process-minded and demonstrates the ability to build and execute action plans both individually and through project teams to ensure alignment in pursuit of organizational deliverables.Requires EHS management of change review and approval of safety and industrial hygiene capital project reviews.Works closely with EHS professionals, Engineering, Medical & Emergency personnel, and Site Operating Units (at a variety of levels), to improve the safety and health of colleagues and associated systems along with ensuring compliance with such programs.


The successful candidate will have a Bachelor Degree in Health & Safety, Engineering or closely related discipline and a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant professional experience. Board certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Chemical Engineer is a plus.Practical experience in Manufacturing is not required but desirable.Experiences in effectively interpreting, implementation and execution of both external (MIOSHA, MVPP) and internal Pfizer Standards related to High Hazard Safety (confined space, lockout, machine guarding, hot work, electrical, fall hazards, etc.). Possesses a positive customer service mindset with the ability to flex in an ever changing manufacturing environment.A high degree of proficiency with common computer programs, such as Word, Power point, and Excel is required along with excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. The ability to solve complex technical problems and provide expert technical support is a must. Demonstrated ability to successfully engage with multiple levels of the organization and the proven ability to lead cross functional teams. Demonstrated leadership and technical capabilities. This position requires frequent time in the manufacturing areas around production equipment and as needed, will require weekend or off-shift work to support emergency response, investigation and EHS project demands. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTSCandidates should be capable of walking, standing, and climbing in a variety of work environments both inside and outside of buildings on a variety of work surfaces. Be able to successfully function in hot and cold conditions. Candidate should have the ability to present in small and large group forums. To a lesser degree, this job involves sitting in a variety of office and conference settings. Be able to successfully work on a computer, use camera and technical monitoring equipment. NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS Candidate will be expected to be on call for safety investigation purposes and at times may need to extend work schedule to manage workload. Depending on field experience there may be a request to support Pfizer's Global Audit team by serving as a guest auditor for another Pfizer site. (This is rare but an opportunity available to team members should the need arise).
