Foundations For Living is an 84 bed (14 males and 70 females) secure residential treatment facility for youth addressing mental health and substance abuse issues. Located on the edge of Mansfield, Ohio, in a 14 rolling, wooded acres rural setting, Foundations For Living has easy access to I-71. Foundations For Living is licensed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (ODMHAS) and CARF accredited. Foundations For Living offers individual, group, and family counseling to our residents. Our mission is to provide an environment of safety where youth feel empowered to heal the wounds of the past and build a foundation of hope for the future.


This position is scheduled to work Tuesday – Saturday from 1:45PM – 10:15PM. Every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, this position will work as a Youth Care Specialist. Every Friday & Saturday, this position will work as a Shift Supervisor.


The Shift Supervisor assists and supports Unit Managers in training employees; follows direction of Unit Manager in planning, assigning, and directing work and according to facility policy and practice. Proactively supports Specialists on the units by stepping in to allow them to take breaks or providing other positive support in situations of acuity, crisis or other unit issues.  Role models expected behaviors. Ensures the efficient operation of the treatment milieu during assigned shift(s) including the implementation of resident activities and experiences in accordance with the unit’s programming and facility policies, procedures, and philosophy. Works with Unit Managers to manage shift schedules for specialists to maintain unit assignments and proper staffing ratios while maximizing workflow, minimizing overtime and maintaining the safety and security of the house. Assures compliance with company policies and procedures through diligent supervision and examination of all unit activity/workflow, including monitoring documentation for accuracy and legibility. Ensures accurate and timely documentation as required for shift reports, behavioral reports, activity logs, incident reports, special treatment and safety measures packets, etc.  Follows up on reports as required by policy or directed by facility management. Provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns, following proper therapeutic hold technique guidelines, and displaying neutral emotions. Consistently meets facility and regulatory training requirements by attending all mandatory meetings and staff training sessions as required. Assures cleanliness and orderliness of the facility and proactively assists in all security, maintenance, and safety functions as required for the overall facility.


The Youth Care Specialist provides consistent professional direct care, supervision, and mentoring to our youth during classroom education, groups, recreation activities, hygiene, meals, and sleep. The Youth Care Specialist maintains a safe and therapeutic milieu as well as supports the activities of daily living for our residents by providing structure, redirecting residents, and setting limits on whichever shift assigned. Occasionally crisis intervention skills may be utilized. Our Youth Care Specialists actively engage youth in a Trauma-Informed Care and pro-social model designed to provide each resident with the necessary skills for a safe and productive life. Youth Care Specialists serve as positive role models and work as part of a team of educators, clinicians, and nurses to support each youth as he or she works to meet individual goals.
