Description

The primary responsibilities of the Specialty Sales consultant (SSC) are to work with the AE/RAC/IS/IS to facilitate specialty sales and persistency in the marketplace. The SSC will market and provide subject matter expertise on specialty employer paid and voluntary products and process for their assigned health plan. The small business SSC is responsible for the market assign specialty sales goal for the specialty small business market segment, those customers employing up to 99 employees.

At least 51% of this role’s activities are focused on external activities to support the specialty sales goal.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Independently works specialty cases to position and recommend the best plan options to facilitate sales process including supporting rate bank application, packaged savings, broker bonus programs

  • Advocate for specialty voluntary products to support increase In enrollment and size of sale - support

  • Broker directly to increase and administer enrollment process with small employer groups

  • Create and drive strategies for top specialty producing agencies and brokers including working with the AE/RAC/IS to present specialty strategies to a broker or top agency.

  • Collaborate with AE/RACIIS regarding specific market objectives and develop competitive strategies with specific Brokers I General Agents

  • Supports service organization with Broker escalated service issues

  • Produces specialty sales that result in profitable premium levels for the company

  • Consult with AE/RACIIS on strategy calls related to specialty

  • Conduct CE courses on specialty topics

  • Represent UHC at specialty benefits related seminars / exhibitions; and industry specific association meetings (LIMRA, CEBS, WEB, NAHU)

  • Oversight of the specialty sale at the direction of the AE/SAE to achieve health plan market sales goals and maintain profitability

  • Responsible for assisting in the creation and supporting attainment of assigned specialty market small business sales goals

  • Less than 49% of the role will be focused on supporting internal activities including:

    • Works collaboratively with AE/RACIIS to support sales, product and process education and training of specialty employer paid and voluntary products

    • Collaborate on external calls as requested by Small Business Generalist AEs

    • Be the specialty product subject matter expert that can translate product capabilities into solutions for customers (train, develop AE/RA/IS in the field)

    • Works with AE/RACIIS on field underwriting, facilitate the use of rate bank as needed for specialty product sales

    • Conduit for communication on specialty topics - including marketing initiatives that AE/RAC/IS should be promoting (i.e. product updates, bonus programs, rate cards, drip marketing, leading specialty CE courses focused on specialty, etc.)

    • Educates SOS on quoting plan designs and pre-implementation through the new sales process

    • Develops business relationships with AE/RAC/IS in order to increase sales

  • Promotes sales of specialty benefits products for small business (2 to 99 employees) through providing regular education and updates to AE/RAC/IS in the following areas:

    • Educating and keeping AE/RAC/IS up to date on UHC products and pricing state by state initiatives that support specialty sales

    • Evaluates and discusses with AE/RAC/IS how UHC specialty products meet the needs of the broker’s customers

    • Independently develops and delivers recommendations for external customer through the AE/RAC/IS on which specialty products to market against competing products

    • Assisting AE/RAC/IS in developing sales proposals, including anticipating competing products and distinguishing UHC’s products from those competing products

    • Assisting AE/RAC/IS in keeping track of proposal and sold cases up to date

  • Product knowledge

    • Solid knowledge of all products sold in their market segment, including competitive products, applies independent judgment to recommend products for a given customer’s situation

    • Knowledge to be an advocate of voluntary product offerings and enrollment process

  • Organization skills

    • Very strong organizational skills key to balancing multiple priorities, objectives and customer obligations

    • Time management skills critical to success

  • Relationship building and influence

    • Builds strong relationships with AE/RAC/IS through frequent collaboration and strong product knowledge and advice

    • Ability to negotiate and close sales
