River Oaks Hospital, located in metropolitan New Orleans, Louisiana, is a private psychiatric facility for adults, adolescents and children. Since 1970, River Oaks has established a tradition of excellence in the treatment of acute psychiatric illness, dual diagnosis, alcohol and drug detoxification, trauma based disorders, compulsive behaviors, and eating disorders, River Oaks has provided quality treatment to service individuals suffering from mental illness, and/or addictive disorders. Situated on a 14 acre campus, services are available at all levels of care (inpatient, day or partial hospitalization, outpatient, and intensive outpatient).

River Oaks Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Social Worker, to include but are not limited to providing clinical social work expertise to our out-patient/ Partial Program; deliver social services in assigned areas according to patient needs, adhere to standards of patient quality care and work as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and within guidelines set by the Social Services Department and the individual unit Program Director.  Duties also include the responsibilities of hospital Patient Advocate. 

Key responsibilities are, but not limited to:

  • Provides psychosocial assessments/social histories in a time frame and format as prescribed by departmental policy and procedure.
  • Conducts individual, family, and group psychotherapy as needed; demonstrate a high level of clinical skill to address the needs of the patient and their family. Demonstrates a high level of knowledge in the application of various therapeutic concepts, methods and interventions.
  • Assess, identify, plan and coordinate patient discharge needs from date of admission to date of discharge according to department policy and procedures.
  • Facilitate patient and family access to community resources during hospitalization and upon discharge.
  • Provides consultation to multi-disciplinary treatment team on discharge plans and resources.
  • Attends all treatment team meetings, staffing and treatment planning sessions.
  • Communicates and documents all clinical information on case management, utilization review, treatment, and discharge planning in a timely manner to all members of the treatment team.
  • Meet with all inpatients regarding official grievance; respond to all phone calls timely and respond in writing to all patient grievances within required 7 business days/ as per Grievance Policy.
  • Ensure all documentation for program and patient advocate issues are accurate, timely, clinically appropriate and descriptive according to applicable requirements.
  • Observes confidentiality and safeguards all patient and employee related information in relation to the Grievance process. 
  • Communicates with all levels regarding grievances to address and resolve complaints as soon as possible. 
  • Attends all required in-services annually:


Job Requirements


  • Master’s degree in Social Work with specialization in mental health.
  • Possesses an unencumbered license; i.e., LPC, LCSW; by a certified board in Louisiana or Counselor Intern is acceptable with clinical supervision on going or completed towards obtaining LCSW/ LPC.
  • A minimum of two (2) yrs. experience in individual, group, and family therapy;
  • Ability to assess the needs and provide the required range of treatment modalities and interventions
  • A minimum of one year experience in discharge planning, clinical case management or a similar position in a community based agency setting which provides experience in referrals for patients.
